Riot shields cheap or awesome

Are riot shields even allowed at most airsoft games or would just the mere sight make everone afraid and Ban you for life. I'm just a noob asking a serious question before I get banned in infamy.

Most host(to my knowledge) do not allow riot shield to be used. Mostly for the fact that in real life, a riot shield wont protect you from a bullet. But if you have a BALLISTIC shield, that may be a different story. I'm not sure about if you had a full size ballistic shield you would be able to use it in a game, which you wont want to by the end of the game do to the extreme weight on your arm.

He's right, riot shields don't stop bullets. Using one on the field as a "BB shield" is ridiculous and cheap. They wouldn't be allowed at any game I host.

Weighted ballistic shields, however, can be a useful prop for CQB scenario games. It's mostly a waste outdoors, they are too heavy, too cumbersome, and you will most likely get shot in the back while carrying it around. They're only good for close quarters. At most of our CQB events, we require that these shields be a specific weight, somewhere in the range of 15 to 25lbs.

What we need is some way to weight ballistic shields while still making them temporary/eventually penetrable. A weighted frame with 2 or 3 layers of corrugated cardboard would keep people from using them as impenetrable bastions of bad movie mechanics. I think I'd let the occasional destructible shield slide in an event DRAT would host, but we wouldn't let people bring their own.

The only time I've seen them in open play has been CQB (not CQB competitions, mind you, but even then they can be pretty broken) and they break the whole game every time they're fielded. Generally, they're just kind of lame.

I want to figure out how to make one with a good curve and have it around 25lbs. It would be for CQB of course.

So you don't really need a super heavy shield. And it would be a lot easier to make a frame then center out of cardboard with those designs too.

I wonder how much they actually weigh. Probably nothing some epoxy, some lead weights, and a good paint job can't fix. The dual handle design is a little questionable I would say. Seems like it would be awkward to hold using one hand.

What you are looking at in the Evike ad is a concave riot shield. the two handles comes in handy for trapping unruly subjects against barriers etc....When used in a jail the concave is the other way for exactly that purpose. A "ballistic shield is Kevlar or something similar and has handle options to suit the mission, operator. typically very heavy ( ballistic protection) has lights, and sometimes wheels for the big ones.. A riot shield is polycarbonate and has protection only against thrown objects and fluids ( typically paint, piss, crap and other such items). If you check out some of the 2000 WTO riot vids on you tibe you can see them in action.

Type "ballistic shield" into google images and you will see a pretty fair representation of what is available in the real world, some good models to follow for you too.

I would say that Riot Shields as you know them in COD are out. A realistic breakable ballistic shield applied realistically in a CQB/LE scenario would be usable depending on the game, admin staff, and fielder of the shield.

Maybe make a metal frame for a Ballistic sheild, and use a cardboard insert of 1-2 layers. That way it actually can be punctured by a BB, yet still have some weight to it.

I know what they are actually used for. I more so meant for the application of using it as a ballistic shield, the handles wouldn't do.
