FAPC sizing

Postby Juicemachine » Tue Mar 29, 2011 4:43 pm

So, I want a Gen I FAPC, so I can have a carrier to carry some mags/plates/hydro, to run over a belt rig, and I don't wanna pay a lot/carry a huge carrier. My question is this: Does the size of the carrier affect the amount of PALS on the front? I know the medium has 7 columns of PALS, which is OK, as I could run a tourney on the odd colum, but it'd be really awesome to have 8, so does the XL have more? Plus, I've got a large-ish chest, and the extra protection of an XL plate might me nice.

Thanks in advance.

Unsure about XL sizing. But something to note.

You will want to make sure you're actually using plates with this carrier. And plates that fit, at that. The carrier has a one-inch "gap" allowing for the plates. With no plates, or too narrow plates, it will flop around like loose fabric with even empty pouches.

This may or may not be accurate with modern models. I have a Gen I, that's a couple years old, and got lucky that my plates were a complete match. Your mileage may vary!

If I get too skinny of plates, I'll make some "backers".

Yeah. I'm pretty sure the XL would fit me, as the vest isn't any bigger than the plate, right?

My XL has no more MOLLE than the medium ones.

Or people who don't want big floppy useless pouches on the front and less MOLLE space.

I've never had any problems with the cummerbund pocket sagging.

And people who recognize the amount of extra bulk isn't going to help you get in and out of vehicles all day long. Who needs a shitty do-nothing pouch? I guess you could put one or two of those 500 shitty do-nothing get-in-the-way chem lights in your shitty do-nothing pouch.

No need to pour on the hate joe...

The improvements to the shoulder pads and buckles is what I like about the Gen 2. Having the buckles bar-tacked is much better than just a single row of stitching on a stress point. FWIW, I don't use the cummberbund pocket as it makes everything stick out too far.
