Sniper Training
Image

When: Saturday May 28th, 2011
Time: 1000-1600 hours
Where: Scappoose Field (Alder Creek Road)
Cost: Free
Age: 14+ (Younger taken on case by case basis) (Waiver Required Airsoft Pacific Waiver)

Required Gear:
Eye Protection
Camouflage (Ghillie, 3D, or BDUs)
Airsoft Rifle that meets Airsoft Pacific Safety Standards

Recommended Gear:
Face Guard / Mouth Piece
Lunch
Water

Mission: This event is more of a training day rather than a competition. It's an event to rub shoulders with fellow low crawlers and to practice some fundamentals. In anticipation of APST's "Sniper Hunt" event in the summer time, this is a good event to practice being a sneaky bastard. Sniper/Spotter teams are welcome as well as the solo sniper. Rifles can be AEGs/Springs/Gas rifles that meet the AP Safety Standards. There will be no awards or judging. All feedback will be player guided. This event is open to all new or seasoned snipers. For time constraints we need to limit to about 20 players.

Registration: Sound off in this thread that you are attending. *NOTE* We all understand that life happens, but please do not commit and then bail for no reason. Players really make these events and when people do not show, it sucks for everyone. Sometimes people travel long distances for these events - lets make it worth their while. This event will happen rain or shine.

Timeline:

0900 - Arrive & Make Ready

Phase 1: Introductions / Weapons & Gear Check

1000- There will be pre-measured areas of the field so you can test the limitations of your rifle @25 - 100 yards. A Chrono will be available. This range will have multiple size targets. Any kind of rifle is allowed. Show & tell time for gear and rifles.

Phase 2: Marksmanship & Alternative Firing Positions

1100 - Multiple stations will be setup challenging players to fire from alternate firing positions rather than just prone/kneeling/crouching. Positions may included loophole shooting, under a vehicle, from inside a vehicle, urban prone, supine, weak side, moving targets, etc. A stress fire event may be incorporated (Counter sniper operation)

1145 - Lunch break

1230 - Gather gear and walk to AO

Phase 3: Stalk & Fire

1230-1330: Prepare for stalk (Veg/Paint) / Instruction on Movement / Discuss Hide Construction

1400: This is a stalk similar as seen on the International Sniper Competition. Snipers are given two hours to get two successful shots on target. All snipers will begin stalk at the same time. Two Spotters will be stationary near the target using low power optics observing the area. The spotters will be in radio contact with a walker. A spotter will be looking for signs of a sniper which include inconsistencies with shape, shine, contrast, color, movement, and sound - NO GUESSING. Once a spotter sees something they will yell FREEZE THEM over the radio. The walker in the field will yell FREEZE & all snipers will hold their position. The spotters must guide the walker within one foot of the sniper to eliminate them. If the sniper is eliminated they'll be told what gave them away - and they can restart the course.

Once a sniper is in their final firing position, they take their shot. Once they hit their target the walker will walk within 20 ft of the sniper and stop. The spotters will raise two cards and the sniper must identify one of the letters or numbers shown. The walker will relay the sniper's call to the spotters via radio. Spotters will scan the area to detect the presence of the sniper. If detected, guide the walker on target. If the spotters have no idea, tell the sniper to take their second shot. If they remain undetected - they complete the exercise. If this is completed under time constraints - they can choose to go through the course again. If this wraps up early - we can move to another AO and let the snipers roll again.

1600ish - End

Can I do the first two phases, then be a walker for the stalk? If so, I am so in.

I have enough admin staff but you're more than welcome to observe. The main part of this event is going to be the stalk. Any reason why you don't want to participate?

Have to check with my sniper but I would love to put an extra pair of boots on the ground for this one.

Because I don't have a completed ghillie, but I guess I could just run it in my ODs.

Quigly:

Not sure what you mean by "completed" if that means you have a base at all, but if you have 100 bucks laying around we could assemble a high quality ghillie tog top for you before the stalk.

Just throwin it out there.

If you need more details just shoot me a PM.

Don't need a ghillie - just a little technique and some natural veg and we can get you underway. Bring a boonie - it'll help a lot. Check this video:
