Are Oakleys safe for Airsoft?

Postby pseudoanimosity » Sun Feb 20, 2011 5:00 pm

I got a set of Oaks for my birthday, and I was wondering if they would be safe to use for airsoft, seeing as they contour to my face, and seal better than my set of Ess ICE glasses.

All Oakley glasses pass the ANSI Z87.1 test, although I'm not sure exactly what that makes them safe for.

This means that they pass the regulations Airsoft Pacific has set forth as standard.

Always wear eye protection in the form of goggles, masks, or shooting glasses, or safety glasses. Never remove your eye protection while on the battlefield. Regular prescription glasses are NOT acceptable as safety eyeware. Must meet ANSI Z87.1 standards and wrap around the face.

That said, I would be very careful what I wear out there, because often "safety" glasses only protect from straight-forward dangers, and there are often spaces that are not covered. For that reason, I always wear a pair of full-seal goggles at minimum when playing. Only got one set of eyes, and I would prefer to keep them in lieu of some "coolness" factor.

It is common knowledge.

What Oakleys did you get? If they're M-Frames, then perfect, you have one of the best pieces of non-mesh eye-protection available for airsofting, in my opinion.

If they're not Ms, then what model are they?

All genuine Oakleys are safe for airsoft (as far as the impact standard says). Just remember, that if there are open spaces, bb's WILL find their way into it.

Not true. The Oakley cop glasses (aviator style) aren't up to z87.1 ratings. They are ANZI, but not to airsoft safe levels. Makes me a sad panda because I'd gat bitches alllll day in them :(

Link? I was told buy an Oakley rep that all sunglass lenses they make are impact resistant. Maybe I'm wrong though...

Here is the testing they do on the lenses. http://www.oakley.com/innovation/optica ... protection

Those will work, and if I remember correctly, they also fit fairly snugly, so you should be green.

EDIT: How it looks with the rest of your kit, on the other hand...

Aside from the fact that they suck dog balls for quarters in the peripheral vision department?? They cost a shit load and are not purpose built... unlike the M frames.....

And you also only get one set of eyes. Sell'em off and buy M Frames 2.0!! You won't regret it.
