need help building an effective sniper/spotter team

Postby Patrick750 » Wed Jan 19, 2011 12:58 am

So me and my friend have decided to make sniper spotter type team. He is using an ECHO 1 M28 while i'll be using my G&P M16 A3. Before you flame me, my friend and I are working together to build up our guns to make them as affective as possible. We've both read those sniper stickies and are gunna make that Echo 1 go form zero to hero if you know what I mean. What I want to know is if he should use something like a 3X scope while I do my spotting with a more powerful scope. Spotters can use DMR's right? That's what i'm trying to build and i'm wondering when I should engage. Should we always be laying right next to each other when trying to engage a target? I understand that a spotter needs to be right next to the sniper to make his spotting as accurate as possible but that's not what my friend and I are trying to accomplish. We still want to have fun and not sit on our asses in one spot all game getting a few kills. That's what the pros (KA-BAR) do... also do I even need to build a DMR because from what I understand the spotter only engages when the team comes under attack and in normal airsoft "under attack" situations a DMR isn't really needed.

We believe we have pretty good teamwork and communication skills because we always airsoft together and are always on the same team. But then again we usually go to places like Oregon-Airsoft which is much more laid back and good communication isn't as important. This leads me to another question, do we need radios or are we going to be really close the whole time?

We want to be laid back and our goal isn't to be as serious as some other sniper/spotter teams out there but we have open minds and want to hear an experienced opinion.

This is our first time trying something like this so we don't even know if we're going to like it. We will start building upon our platforms after a couple of games and seeing if this is what we really want to put our time and money into.

radios are useful for finding one another after leaving the dead pool and what not. You could use an smg as a spotter and still be effective, as long as your engaging correctly. Best bet with airsoft is just to go out and see what corrections would make it more fun for you, and make minor adjustments over time until you have what you want.

i have never rolled with a spotter
i dont own a radio
i am not a professional
i am self taught

learn to set up a L Ambush
learn to force a target into thinking they are in cover, when in reality, they just stepped into your spotters line of fire.
get radios.

your spotter is not a traditional spotter as in real world shooters. your spotter is your security man now.

thebest sniper team would be a shooter, a spotter and 2 saw gunners. 4 man squad of death.

have fun. come test your skills at Ghillieman 2011
I am not half as good as I want to be, but I am twice as good as you think I am.

At some events, my team runs like a Marine Corps modern sniper team.

Team Leader (Head Sniper, usually uses a bolt action)
Assistant Team Leader (Second Sniper, usually carries a semi-auto rifle)
2 guys for Security (M4s, SAWs, etc.)
One RTO (Not needed in airsoft)
And one extra guy who can be used as an extra sniper or security.

The days of two guys leaving the wire with some rounds and crackers are over.

PM me if you want some more USMC Sniper Team info.

I may play in the desert, but the tactics are almost the same.

I have seen a sniper/saw team work with ruthless effeceincy. The SAW gunner suppresses the enemy squad except one (the target), which the sniper picks off. Lather, rinse, repeat...

Spotters usually carry 6-10 M4 mags and 2-4 mags for their sidearm.

Is there a staging area between each game?
