It will still process other sounds, like people talking so you can still here that. They have a volume control on the side that lets you amp up the outside noise to levels that are just on the edge of normal hearing. They are affected by wind which is annoying, but its to be expected.
That being said, thats how the real ones work. The chinky ones (Element, Z tactical) kinda work that way, but aren't built very well. I've heard of all sorts of problems with PTTs, microphones not working or being wired backwards. You can try them, but don't expect them to be as good as the real ones
Also, if you find used Sordins on ebay, they are usually the low impedance version, which is meant for DoD (RE Army, Navy, AF, ETC) radios. Civilian radios like the kind we use at games, are high impedance. What it boils down to is using a low impedance headset with a high impedance radio makes you very quiet, you nearly need to yell so people can hear you normally over the radio which kinda makes them moot.
If your coming to Snowmageddon or any other game that I'll be at, come find me and I"ll let you test drive my TCI Liberator IIs (based on Sordins but with added win!)
