Does anyone use a gas mask for MilSim anymore?

Postby Ninja2dan » Sat Dec 25, 2010 3:41 am

I've been curious if any airsoft milsim players are still out there wearing either an M17 or M40 gas mask during events, obviously for appearance purposes and not actual protective function?

I ask because I have been in the process of reenlisting for a while now, and as I'm getting closer to getting back in I realize I have no room for most of my old issued gear that I brought home. I have thought about selling some of it, and someone suggested that I try selling the M40 to some airsoft players who might have a desire to use it instead.

So I'm curious if anyone out there would actually wear one on their hip/shoulder during a MilSim event, or if there would be any interest in it for me to post it in the classifieds section. I've been so busy with everything else over the past 2 years that I've been unable to participate in airsoft myself, and I'm out of the loop.

I'm interested in getting back into airsoft again later, maybe after my reenlistment is done. But right now due to unemployment I can't afford it, and see little need to keep the majority of equipment I have piled up in the garage.

Someone, in the community is going to host a game where gas mask's are required.

Just saying. Also, its not me.

I had been thinking of hosting a game about 2 years ago and brought up the idea of gas masks with smoke devices to simulate gas attacks, or maybe even obtaining some CS canisters.

At the time, the idea of using gas masks for active protection against CS was laughed at, and the general opinion was that gas masks are too expensive to require an entire event to bring them along. So it's surprising news to hear that a possible event might in fact be requiring them, and I'd love to hear more about it if anyone has a link or something.

My mask is in like-new condition and has been cleaned/maintained as per Army PMCS standards. So I'm not sure if the airsoft community would want a functioning mask, or a cheaper non-working unit for appearance only.

I'm just curious if the "gear whores" are serious enough about their loadout that they actually try to carry a mask with them during events, or if that has been viewed as "over the edge".

I can't find my M40 anywhere, but I prefer my C50 anyways, it is just a much better mask all around.

I would buy it just for the novelty of owning one. I miss my old M25.

Did I really just say that?

Gas masks were used in CQC5.

I'll go ahead and post the mask in the classifieds then, in case someone wants it.

I carry a Russian "Gorilla" style gas mask with me in most games, just for the hell of it.
