"Official" announcement: ACU is dead!

Discussion of load-bearing equipment, tactical gear, holsters, BDUs, and other gear related to Airsoft.

There's this stuff coming out too. Not the prettiest, but it looks like it works fairly well. Whether the military will consider it or not, I don't know.

The title of this thread should be "UCP is Dead" UCP is the camouflage pattern while ACU is the cut/design of the uniform. The Army wants new camo patterns, not a new uniform design.

I think the ACU cut should also die.

Too much velcro, crotch is not reinforced for blowouts and the fabric is horrible when sweated in.

The crotch is weak in most BDU's. Ask Braddock, he's ripped every pair he has.

The only thing I would change. Would be to angle the chest pockets out instead of in.

Velcro on trouser pockets gets weak with repeated use and does not help when carrying large or weighty objects. I'd go back to buttons for those.

Chest pockets angled out for use with plate carriers.

Reinforced crotch area.

Change of fabric to something that breathes better. Cotton/poly blend.

Remove zipper on front w/ velcro back to button system.

rear pockets stay velcro. arm pockets stay velcro.

Remove the pen holster in the sleeve or at least have it face the opposite direction with a protective flap.

I also hear the ACU is designed for an operational lifespan of 180 days.
Not very useful for Soldiers deployed for a year or so at a time...

However, as one who has worn ACU's to many an airsoft game, I must say that IMO Velcro is the worst possible thing to put on a combat uniform... It may be quicker than buttons, but it is loud, doesn't hold any weight, and attracts all manner of seeds and crap when crawling around in the brush -.-
In other words, I generally agree with Darius above ^

The velcro is good in a few places, or it was on the better velcro in the older ones. Buttons on the cargo pockets and reinforced crotch are two things i think they added to the OCP ones they are using in Afghanistan. Too bad those ones are like the FRACU.
