Knowing when you're hit?

Postby Tactical Church » Mon Dec 20, 2010 12:45 pm

Just a quick question. I wear a plate carrier to games which covers most if not all of my up half of my body. often times i get shot and i dont feel it. But i can usually hear it. But i must admit on a good amount of times i have heard what i thought was rain. looked over and saw bbs flying at me. I reolized i had been shoot alot and then called myself out. Yet i felt bad because i have no idea how long that guy had been shooting me. and i have to assume that had to have been frustrating to him wasting all that ammo and also him thinking im not calling my hits. Would this be referred to as hacking? or is this common?

I think it's petty common. I hate shooting guys in plate carriers, they have no idea they are getting hit.

Ya i am considering for this very reason not to run with a plate carrier anymore. they look awsome and they are very fun to play in but its not worth pissing people off because i didnt feel my hit

I don't use one, just because I don't need to carry very much. A 170 round midcap lasts a long time on semi auto, so I don't need extra mags unless it's a super long game. Considering getting an ALICE rig or MOLLE belt, just to carry a few small things.

I have shot quite a few people I believe are honorable players in the plate carriers and they didn't call it.
It is a common occurring that is very annoying.

If the person shooting you doesn't know you they are going to assume you are doing it intentionally though.

I've seen alot of players not call hits. Wearing anything from plate carriers, Belt's and Y straps to no gear on at all.

I like to think the ones who didn't call hit. Either didn't feel it or I didn't hit them. The truth is somewhere in the middle tho.

I usually go by the pop that the bb makes when it hits, It's hard to tell when it's raining, but you have to make an educated guess. If it is likely that I was hit, even if I'm not sure, I call it. Airsoft is a game of honor and I would rather take a hike back to spawn than get called a hacker.

Like Ivan said, it happens a lot, but you can only control your actions so take the positive first step.

The only time I have any difficulty telling if I've been hit while wearing a plate carrier is if it is raining heavily.

Other than that, the impact makes a pretty distinctive sound.

+1
I try to give folks the benefit of doubt...even when I see a bb or two bounce off of em.

Personally I don't get the airsoft plate carrier thing though. Taking a shot only stings for a sec...I've got more respect for the guys that show up in a t-shirt to play, lol.

Just do the best you can to call your hits. It's only hacking if you know you got shot and didn't call it...

I have to say that this is one of the best threads I've read in a long time, its good to see that people are aware that they might of been hit.We have quit a few people that will deck a kit out so much that they don't even hear their kit getting hit, helmets are usually shot or legs if its a possible target.
On top of the PCs being a problem, hydro packs,or MAPs/and back packs are a general pain in the _ss.

Most guys from our team have switched over to running lighter kits becuase of this, most are using Eagle LE chestys with PACA soft armor, and really really thin foam in them so its just enough to hold some shape but very thin at the same time.A few of us are just running 5.11 or Eotac operator vests and a chesty.

Hope this helps and adds to a great thread here.

It's a fashion show. We wear what we think looks good. It's not for protection. (Expect CQC comps.)

Plate carrier are used to carry equipment, not to stop the sting of bb's. I can do with out the t-shirt tennis shoe kids ;) Although if you're gonna wear kit. Learn to tell the sound of when you're getting hit. It's a distinct "Thwack" sound. Hard to miss over the usual tak-tak of trees or plywood getting shot.

I don't think equipment is much of a factor in hit calling. Example.. A friend with a bolt. Shot a kid in a window, in the side of the head. The kid scratched his head and continued shooting... I've seen people flinch and run off when getting shot. Heard people go "OW!" then start shooting... These are the problem players.

I sometimes have a problem knowing if I am out while wearing a plate carrier, but I usually have bigger problems with my shemagh around my neck.

It makes no sound and I can't feel a thing. Its just the nature of low velocity bbs I guess.

The thing I wonder about though is how is getting hit in a plate carrier any different than getting hit in a mag pouch.
You won't be able to feel either. And they are made of similar material so the sound wouldn't be that different, would it?
In fact Plate carriers are usually covered in pouches.

What if it hits an outer patch(like on your extreme right or left) that, and if it were a real bullet, would have at worst ripped through the pouch and out without hitting your actual person? Are you still out?
