Eye wear opinion/suggestions

Postby Merchant » Sat Dec 11, 2010 12:21 pm

So I'm in the market for new eye pro. If there is one thing my dad taught me it is that protecting your eyes is worth the price good quality gear, so my price range is pretty much unlimited.

I'm not looking for anything mesh because I would like to use these outside of airsoft. I am also not really looking goggles, however if you think there is something worth checking out, post it.

I've already checked out Oakley, but there was only one pair of sunglasses that seemed to seal well around my eyes, and but they didn't look right.

I'm considering Wiley X's and will be looking at some Tuesday.

Are there any other notable brands that you guys would suggest looking into?

Thanks

I have use quite a few different brands, heres my 2 cents on the more popular ones:

WILEY X: I didnt like the SG-1s...they fogged way too much. I do however like their XL-1s. They are moch more solid and dont fog nearly as much, but they are a pain under a headset.

OAKLEY: I really like their M-frames, IF I am not wearing my comtacs. If you dont wear a headset, M-frames are great glasses...but they are extremely over rated and way to pricey. I broke one pair by hitting it with my arm. Also, they seal just fine. Chances are, a BB is never gonna get in there. Another good selection from oakley, is Flak-Jacket and Half-Jacket. Those are fine under headsets.

ESS ICE: What I am using now. They go around my eyes just fine, and the lags lay flat...so if you wear a headset, these are the best choice.

Revision SAWFLY: The seal is terrible...I would only wear them with my helmet (the straps cover the sides). But if you do decide to wear them, they are very well built

Uvex XC: They are the best seal (except for wileys), and the legs lay flat for headsets, but after the first game, some white crap starts showing up on the lens...kind of annoying.

ESS NVG profile goggles: Very nice goggles, and the venting system is GREAT....no fogging at all

Revision goggles: Same as the ESS proflies, but a little bigger

FlakJacks: fog too much, and they are way too big and bulky. I wouldnt even bpther with them

-Hope this helped!

I would definitely suggest the Oakley M-Frame GI 2.0s. Great glasses, fit well, good protection. Which Oakleys did you try?

I love my ESS NVG profile goggles, so I'd recommend them

Revision Desert Locust - I bought mine from E-bay. Retails at $60 but this guy sells them for like $25.99. They're original and not knock offs.

I love these, very nice. I use them all the time as shades. Probably cheaper than you'd like to buy though.

Deploying, I was issued Revisions, and we got a bunch of free Oakley's sent to us by Oakley.

For glasses, the Revision Sawfly are simply the best glasses I've ever used.
-Protection: 12GA buck at 15 ft.
-Fogging: Never been an issue for me, a couple people did have trouble with fogging in Georgia. Any regular anti-for treatments clear it right up.
-Durability: Fell off an MRAP in full kit (10ft about), landed on my left shoulder with my glasses in the pocket. They came through fine. Results may vary, but they are very durable.

Oakley's are also of VERY good quality. M-frames, flack jackets, and half jackets are all very good for airsofting (I currently use the half-jackets, they're stylish too!) Oakley's can also take serious punishment (despite above claims, that is not typical)

WileyX's are very high quality, an excellent choice. Usually a little less expensive than Revisions, WileyX has many different styles.

If you're looking for an actual "seal", you'll want goggles. All goggles will be more prone to fogging, some more than others, and fogging issues are usually dependant on the wearer (I have never had a problem with fogging).

How goggles fit on your head can only really be figured out by trying them. For light weight, I've always preferred WileyX SG-1 Vcut.

For ACH/IBH helmets, I've never had anything work better than Revision Desert Locusts.

Good for you on not compromising quality when protecting your eyes.[/url]

The problem is with my facial structure most glasses don't even come close to having a good fit. (less than 6mm between the glasses and my face)

Glasses usually won't, they aren't designed to. Even if there is less than 6mm between the edge of the lens and your face, your skin will still compress, allowing a bb through if it has a good path. This can happen with full seal goggles as well.

Outdoor non-full seal I wear Oakley Flak Jackets. I like these becasue I can put in my prescription lenses if I want. Depending on what you mean by facial structure not fitting glasses, Oakley has Asian fit option.

Outdoor full seal - Bolle T-800 goggles

CQC - Oakley MX frame goggles. These have worked great for various helmets I've worn.

Both these goggles have had very little fogging issues even on humid days here in the Carolinas.
