Arctic Warfare

Discussion of load-bearing equipment, tactical gear, holsters, BDUs, and other gear related to Airsoft.

Camouflage NOT working is what I notice more than when it IS working, and that's kinda the point. And in the PacNW ACU stands out more often than, say, M81, MARPAT, or just plain old OD.

I'm not sure exactly what would work well in the NW when it snows though...

When it snows, I typicaly wear my desert MARPAT, and turn my blouse in-side-out.

When it snows, I wear my regular uniform (was tiger stripe, going to be wearing MARPAT now) with thermal underwear to keep me warm. It never gets snowy enough to where a white overcoat or overpants would be useful, unless I was laying down. And I really don't like laying down in the snow if I can help it.

When there is enough snow down on the ground and on trees , all white snow camo works great.

Even when there is no snow on trees , if you keep low wnough you blend in

If the snow is 2 inchs or more http://store.colemans.com/cart/snow-cam ... -1790.html

If its just cold, strap on the Flecktarn!

There isn't enough snow to justify something like that. You'll stick out more than someone wearing hunters orange. Just look for the white blob running around.

Not if you're low crawling everywhere!

Also edit: In Eastern Oregon and Idaho, we wear ACU's and they are very good at blending into sagebrush. Gowen field (just outside of Boise) is the color of ACUs.

Dan, that's nice and all, but the majority of airsofters don't low crawl. They stand up and run around (I'm guilty of it too). Even fewer people will crawl in snow/mud. Also, take a look at most of the fields we play in. They are all mostly covered by thick trees. This means that less snow will actually hit the ground you are low crawling on. So, a white person moving around on a brown/tan/white/black backdrop will stick out worse than Ka-Bar at a Kwanza party.

Also, thats fantastic that ACU's work in eastern Oregon and Idaho. Last time I checked, majority of the games that are played via persons here on AP was in NW Oregon.

Last time i checked, the 'P' in 'AP' stands for 'Pacific', thus insinuating that this is designed for all states bordering the Pacific... AND all of the residents of said states. You can't be profiling just because a majority of the users here at AP play in northwestern Oregon. AP is here for the use of all the residents of the western states, and as such I would request you keep that in mind before brushing off comments from members of other regions.

Dan lives in Portland. He doesn't live in other regions. Therefore I'm not brushing off members from other regions. However, what I said is true. 99% of the games posted on AP are located in Oregon (specifically within 2 hours of Portland). Yes, this website has members from other regions, however the games that are advertised on here are located in Oregons forests.

Also, I can profile all I want. I don't work for the government... Profiling has saved my life twice now. You bet your a$$ I'm going to continue profiling.

Eh, so profiling is a poor choice of term. My point remains the same, but it was just an expression of my views, take it how you will.

Having said that, I would like to amend my prior statement to say that ACU's do not work as well in the areas that I play in, with relatively few pieces of vegetation much taller than a typical person. I would imagine that they might work better in an area with more cover in which to blend, sand and sagebrush covered in snow render ACU's rather useless...

If I was going to wear UCP/ACU's. I'd rather wear it in "sand and sagebrush covered in snow" Then the nice green forest. There are no bushes large enough to hide it's fail. ;)

Jester316 wrote:Dan, saying that camo patterns don't matter here is a very false statement. There are multitudes of examples of when people did not see others because their camoflauge was working for them. There are also times when the camoflauge wasn't working for them. Knowing what works in each environment, and how to utilize that will benefit the average airsoft player. If used properly, it'll break up your outline, and confuse the enemy. Isn't that why militaries all over the world use camoflauge?

I wouldn't call it a very false statement.

Camouflage is a small part of it. Most camouflage is made for longer distances than airsoft. At airsoft ranges, what makes you stand out is movement.

I played a really fun skirmish at the farm field today, it was pretty snowy up there, and the people who were wearing ACU, had really great camouflage near snowy parts of the field
