1990s Navy SEALS gear

Postby LiberalPacifist » Fri Nov 19, 2010 9:56 am

A few friends and I are trying to put together Navy SEALS kits, and I had a question for AP.

What type of LBV/ALICE pouches did the Navy SEALS use to hold MP5 magazines back in the good old pre-MOLLE days, and where can I find some either in a local surplus store, or online for cheap?

My friends are using Armalites, so they can just use a standard LBV or "enhanced" LBV, but I am using an MP5 and I can't find hardly any information on this on the nets. Did they simply pack them into AR pouches?

That reminds me of this impression that people on other forums always think it was inspired by the movie

But really what danneskjold recommended is right.

Well, damn. it look like the cheapest I can find an ABA tactical vest is $150 with an extra $25 for the MP5 magazine panels. And the cheapest I can find a SOMAV for is $400.

Well, are there any vests that would approximate either the SOMAV or the ABA that cost less than $100? Or any that the Navy SEALS would have conceivably used?

I know my blackhawk SFLBV88 will hold 8 MP5 mags coupled together. Don't know how accurate it would actually be, though.

I wonder if I could tear the STANAG mag pouches off and make/sew some MP5 ones on in their place...

Those vests are so cheap on Ebay I really wouldn't be risking much.

What, on the Blackhawk vest I just linked? I wouldn't even worry about it. One, those pouches are freaking solid, and two, there's really no need.

BTW, just out of curiousity, when did we start seeing those Blackhawk Omega tactical vests commonly? late 90s?
