Multicam Plate carrier/M.O.L.L.E. vest advice

Postby Arbiter » Thu Nov 04, 2010 10:51 pm

I have never once owned a plate carrier/M.O.L.L.E. vest in all my 5 years of airsofting so I need some advice on what kind of a plate carrier/M.O.L.L.E. vest. Im not even sure of the correct term please feel free to correct me. Anyways I have full TRU SPEC tactical response uniform, in the multicam pattern and I would like to get some sort of a "plate carrier/M.O.L.L.E. vest". One that would go well with the camo I have already. I also am open to suggestions on what sort of pouches to get as well. Thanks :D

Eagle Plate Carrier w/ Cummerbund (EPC/C) If you don't have the money for that get one of the replicas... Pantac MOLLE Style PC Plate Carrier or Flyye MOLLE Style PC Plate Carrier. Get it in Khaki/Tan, OD or Ranger Green.

I have heard very good things about the HSGI shoulder pads. Definately on my list of gear to get next.

I would stay away for getting an OTV. It's bulky, hot and obsolete. Besides it's not very practicle for airsoft.

With a budget of 400-500 you can build a pretty good go fast rig.

http://www.diamondbacktactical.com/prod ... I,34,6.htm $130
http://www.skdtac.com/HSGI_Universal_Ma ... sg.223.htm $50
http://www.skdtac.com/HSGI_TACO_Modular ... sg.227.htm $28
http://www.skdtac.com/HSGI_Mini_Radio_P ... sg.212.htm $22
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/largeutilitypouch.aspx $32
http://www.tacticaltailor.com/roll-updumpbag.aspx $28
http://www.rei.com/product/798147 $30
http://prostores2.carrierzone.com/servl ... tail?no=44 $19
=$339+shipping from various sites.
Everything listed above can be bought in MC (except for the bladder :P)

Other pouches you might need depending on what gear you use
http://rsov.com/index.php?target=produc ... t_id=11094 $28 (in MC)
http://rsov.com/index.php?target=produc ... ct_id=9952 $4.50 (in MC)
http://rsov.com/index.php?target=produc ... t_id=10325 $14 (in MC)

What I posted above is almost exactly what I have on my FAPC rig(have some grenade pouches, radio pouch, another TACO and an Eagle FB pouch for my pistol mag instead of the 3o2). Everything that I got, was bought from those sites listed so no worries about them being legit or not. Whats great with the whole setup is that I can run any platform with it and always be able to carry my mags (G36,SIG,M4,AK,.308 patterned mags all fit in the above listed mag pouches) without having to change stuff or worry about things falling out.

Now granted, what works for me might not work for you, but you did want suggestions, and if you want a light, fast rig that holds everything you need, its hard to do much better ;)

+1 to everybody's advice so far..lol!

To narrow things down a bit for a decision...remember that the impression you're going for is your own personal decision, whatever it may be. It's great to see someone out at the fields wearing something refreshing and not the same old stuff. Personally, if I had to fight for real...I'd go PMC type set-up all the way, but enhanced a bit..LOL! Your own personal set-up....your own personal way.

But to be particular....I'd go the route of what Catch 22 and Nasty stated earlier. With a standard Eagle plate carrier in khaki/tan or Ranger Green, you can't go wrong as it can be used for different load-outs and impressions...thus it crosses over very well, is high quality, almost always available and affordable.

Regarding the HSGI shoulder straps..I've had a set of those for who knows how long and they just work great, are inexpensive and they can mount almost to any other brand shoulder strap...including chest rigs..etc as long as the shoulder straps are not extremely wide.

Thanks allot for all your replies they are quite helpful! Im not necessarily looking for a "quick loadout" I'm looking for a "BA but functional" lol which is why I like the OTV but I haven't seen any in multicam nor one that doesn't cost 1.5k haha @jewish ninja, that plate carrier looks really small! Am I correct?
@Nasty what are those "couple" if you don't mind?

Additional info: Im running a M4 and a KWA KMP9 and plan on getting extra mags for that.

It is a small rig. Its the size of the SAPI plate and nothing more. Since you didn't really mention anything about a specific impression, I suggested what works well for me and lets you move freely.

If your planning on doing an impression, then its hard to beat an EPC in terms of function and price. I love the one I have, but I find I like using the FAPC more.
