1200 mm inner barrel?

Postby Arbiter » Sat Oct 09, 2010 12:30 am

Does anyone know if anyone makes one or if there's a source that could make one for me?? It would need the standard AEG hopup hole/thingy on one end.. :D

I do not know where or how or why you would need or find one but I must ask why you are looking for a 4 foot barrel

hahaha for a project.. I'd kinda like to keep the barrel length the same as the real steel version..

There is no need for that long of a barrel. Intact if you install a barrel that long you may notice the accuracy suffering unless it is a 6.05 or so. This consept is a proven one especially seen in realy world shorter barrel sniper rifles. With a barrel that long, if you don't have barrel spacers odds are the accuracy will decrease

You could probably get a custom made barrel of that length, but the cost of machining a single piece of metal that long and precise enough for airsoft would be staggering, if it were in fact possible at all. Not to mention the fact that simply holding it in the wrong place would likely bend it.

And don't forget about shipping. Screwing up packages is what they do, and something this fragile could never survive in shipping.

And even if purchase, shipping and installation went off without a hitch, the maintainence would be ridiculous. You'd practically have to remove it from the gun and store it in oil when not in use to prevent oxidation (brass espescially) inside the barrel that'd be catastrophic to it's performance.

Oh yeah and with a very high ROF low velocity shooter like an mg you might finally be able to experience that mythical "suction" on the bb that we've all heard theorized.

Cool, but impractical. Like moustache wax.

If you were to use it, which wouldn't be advised (just use a shorter barrel going part-way into the outer barrel), you'd need a bleeding massive cylinder, as you need the same volume of the barrel (assuming a 6.05 barrel, and assuming that it is a perfect cylinder, Radius squared times pi times length, 34479 cubic millimeters, or about 34.5 cubic centimeters). That's big, yo.

Don't be hatin', Joe.

Anyway, going much longer than 500mm is impractical and unnecessary. Besides, if your inner barrel doesn't go to the end of your gun, it makes it cooler since it will be basically completely hidden.

Whats wrong with impractical? I am wearing moustache wax now, as I type this message. My biggest concern (as a machinist) is if it is even possible to make. I hadn't considered juices point either and it is a good one.

Another thing, if it were within the realm of possibility to make/use at all, the efficiency would be so great from the added barrel length that the strength of the spring would have to be FAR less than those we are used to in standard AEGs. not necessarily a bad thing, in fact quite a good thing as far as energy consumption is concerned. But the supplied voltage to the motor would have to be lower too, to limit the ROF to sustainable limits.
