Yes, we roll that way in case of fire or general quarters. Though rolling up your sleeves relies on your command giving you the authorization to do so. We have rolled our sleeves green side out at my last two commands, so I don't know if that is new or not... And I'm not going to lie, the cammies do feel like pajamas. hehe

All though I was a wee lad when I first joined AD it was before the uniform change. So I do know the joy’s of polishing boots on a Sunday night to the point your middle finger locks and your skin is being permanently stained black.

I miss BDU’s, you could make them look awesome for garrison and then switch to a shitty par for the field. i had 10 sets of uniforms to include boot’s. i look like a homeless bum in my ACU's

so how does one go about rolling one's sleves? iv only seen it done once 10 years ago, so...

Its really easy - roll outside of the cuff almost up to the armpit, then doing rolls, roll the sleeves in 3-4 two inch segments. Fold the cuff down over top of the rolls, and button the cuff.

Now polish your boots until mean ol' Drill Sergeant can use them as a shaving mirror. And remember kids, you only need to polish three parts of the boot. The toe, the heel and the rest of the boot. Polish half the boot, and you're only half a man!

My favorite was the IS barracks, where you could wear your coveralls or cammies with your sleeves rolled up whitesleeve in the barracks, and at your place of work, but not while travelling between one and the other. Which was almost okay with the cammies, since you could take off the blouse and fix it, but not-so-good if you were wearing the pajamas.

This regulation was especially retarded when you no longer lived, slept, or worked at the barracks, but had to go in and fix a toilet some drunken sailor broke. Its 105*F outside, 80% humidity, and some PO1 I don't even know says I have to unroll my sleeves to cross his quarterdeck for a 3 minute fix.

And I do remember polishing your boots, and your shoes, until they could be used to check that your teeth were clean. We never starched our cammies, though. That just seemed silly. Its a combat uniform. Who cares if my sleeves aren't pressed?

So one day I am hobbling around outside of the Clark AFB PX. I was still on crutches, but only had a knee brace and was thus in unmodified uniform... IE BDU's or Cammies depending on your branch of service. Keep in mind, that includes USMC issue 8 point cover and none of those silly looking blue stripes the USAF types wear. My uniform is fully pressed and inspection ready (as I had stood inspection before being allowed to ride over to Clark... lest some wing nut complain that we're unsat).

I'm waiting for my ride to show up, and over my shoulder I hear "HEY YOU!" Thinking this was someone I may have encountered on shore patrol or whose girlfriend I had shagged, I gaffed it off. It was at this point that someone tapped me on the shoulder and said "You, who the shazaam taught you how to roll your sleeves? You look like a bleeding Marine!"

I stood up, turned around and realized the source of antagonism was a young Senior Airman who was obviously the victim of a horrible joke being played on him by the two Sergeants 50 feet behind him that he was with (both of whom were laughing nearly to the point of falling over). I looked at him and said "I sure as shit HOPE I look like a bleeding Marine, or my 1st Sgt is going to kick my a$$ when I get back." I then sat back down and hoped that this retard would just go away, lest I be forced to beat him with one of my crutches.

I also remember asking one of the gals I was nailing in the SP/LE Squadron why they fold their sleeves like that. She said "Because at night you can't see the this" (pointing at the folded cuff). I asked her if she was worried that people would see her exposed arms... or the white horse she rode around on patrol at night.
