KWA Rifles; decreasing FPS

Postby Attack37 » Tue Aug 10, 2010 6:38 pm

Ok, got a KWA KM16 SR12 in route, and I understand they fire around 410fps. What is the best way to reduce that by 15-20fps without degrading accuracy?

It will be fine. Both my KWA's actually came shooting in the 380's.

Yeah, mine varies from 410-385 with the test .20s at chrono, and I fire .25s which should bring it down a bit more. You should be good. Good choice by the way! Just be careful with what aftermarket flash hider you put on!

just remember that even though you're slowing your FPS by firing a heavier weight bb, it still retains kinetic energy so it hits with the same power as the .20 when fired.

I am not so sure usually my RIS Chronos at 398 constantly but the last game at the Resurrection game I am not sure if the chrono they were using was reading higher than usual but it was getting over 410 415 constantly. That is with a 9.4V. I already put over 5000 rounds in that gun too.

My gun shoots at 400 and sometimes over so i leave the zip ties on to let em know my gun is AP approved.

1. Battery voltage doesn't effect velocity.
2. Old zip ties don't mean your rifle will pass chrono.
3. The chrono at Res II seemed right on for both my KWA's.

Bottomline, man, just wait until you get it and see how it shoots before planning the downgrade. When I bought my first, I did the same thing you're doing now. Turns out, nothing was necessary.

Besides, the FPS may drop a bit once the spring gets broken in a bit. My Echo-1 shot 410 out of the box. Now it shoots 390.

...

Take them off, once you start going to more events nobody will be able to tell if you chornoed or not because you might have the same color on there that the chrono guys are giving out.

As far as dropping FPS, you are more likely to drop because of seals breaking down than a spring losing it's tention. Since standard AEG's do not hold the spring under tension, unlike some Systema weapons, you are not going to lose the tension with use.

If your weapon drops FPS and you want to bring it back up, replace the nosel, piston head, and hop-up. This should bring the rifles FPS back up.

Also, tighter barrels will increase FPS slightly.

you can allways compress the spring

i didnt read all of the posts above so forgive me if its been stated already.
You can throw in a weaker battery, so it cycles the gears and doesnt have enough balls to let the piston go, and let it sit for like a week. I'v told other people to do it before and it worked pretty good loosing like 10 fps in a week of sitting like that.

I mean ull hear the gun go like Waaa, and it wont shoot. Let it sit like that for a couple days and then chrono it ull loose some fps.

I did notice though, with a highly compressed spring ull get a springy noise after you shoot it
