i was thinking potato launcher style airsoft cannon. take a pipe make a potato launcher out of it and mod it to shoot airsoft bbs. anybody have any ideas on how to get the bbs to seal around the tube? the problem is that once you spark it the explosion isnt sealed and doesnt really do anything

Explosions are not allowed on airsoft fields. You'll need to convert it to compressed air (via bike pump is the usual method). This has been done many times. There are even pre-built commercial ones you can buy now.

They are more for launching nerf footballs, but I've seen dixie cups used to seal the barrel for bb's. You unroll the lip on one and shove it down the barrel.

Ive been looking into this myself. Best thing I can come with is a sabot type arrangement made of cardboard that encloses the BBs then drops away once out of the barrel. I have not taken the time to explore it any further. I found it while researching spud guns online. I forget the name of the company, but they make a lot of foam projectiles. mil sim something or other I think

** OK , went and found it

Make your self a pneumatic spud gun and go from there.

I had some similair plans to what DJ posted, the ones I had involved using a dixie cup split down with a ring off a toilet paper tube used to hold it together. If it fits, would be less work then assembling your own. I got it off an old paintball website that doesnt exist anymore.

That Nasty, is the holy grail......I need to play with various psi, sabot weight etc.......so that bbs will rain down at ranges in excess of what a good sniper will shoot.

Its one of those things that has been on the back burner for awhile. Next winter in the shop when the farming is done.

Dork ( sorry I couldn't resist) Study the pneumatic spud gun sites and you can save yourself a lot of trial and error.

Eh, I think howler rockets coming down on my position is a little cooler than BBs falling on me and getting down my shirt and crap, but that's just me I guess.

A few years ago I brought our a Propane powered launcher to Scapoose. Standing on the oppisite side of the ravine from the "town" I inserted a foam plug into the launcher and about 3000 bbs. I blanketed the town in a white rain.

That just sounds awesome... I'm bored, what better way to spend the afternoon then to make a spud gun? Haha...
I'll let you know if it works out.

I'm totally in agreement with regard to nerf rockets as to the cool factor. I'm wanting to do the bb thing mainly to erase any "kill radius" arguments. Still lots of bugs to work out.

Be sure you study the sites re the spud guns, there are some serious safety considerations to be aware of IE: propper grade of PVC, glue curing time etc.....you do not want PVC shreds stuck in your face or your friends.

There are "kill radius'" in airsoft...? How does THAT work?
We want 'em to know if they're gonna leave a bomb on the side of the road, first, we're just gonna blow up their little f**kin road.

That's probably more a factor of how rarely they're used. If they're used rarely, you'll see it less and people will be less familiar with them. Less familiarity might mean people simply do not even notice them

ya the main thing is that if you throw it over a wall they can pick it up put it outside the kill radius and just say it bounced off something and didnt hit them.
