Danner Outlet?

Postby Chachi » Wed Jun 16, 2010 3:15 pm

I have read that many of you have got a sweet deal on some Danner combat style boots at the Danner Outlet in Portland, and I am curious about something. Do they typically have a pretty good selection of these boots on hand at any given time? I ask because I am from Corvallis, and making a trip up there is a good portion of a day. I was hoping that if I do make that trip, that it is worth my while and I find some boots and don’t come back empty handed. I am more comfortable buying boots in person rather than online, because the fit is obviously crucial. Thanks in advance for any thoughts in regards to this question.

Edit: Woo hoo! 300th post!

They usually have a full room of seconds, but it will vary for size and style. You can always call them ahead of time and see what they have if you know what you want.

Last time I was there, they had the room with all their products and another room full of seconds.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I am typically a 9.5, which is an extremely common size, so that can either be a good thing (high production numbers), or a bad thing (hot seller). Giving them a call may not be a bad thing either, and worst case scenario, maybe I'll forgo the Danners and stop by AONW and spend a bit more for some Air Jordan Combat Boots.

It wouldn't hurt to call.

When I went, they only had the boot I wanted in size 8 as far as seconds go. So I had to get the full priced ones; luckily my job paid for them.

Sorry to be a fanboy, but you'll love the Nike SFB's; local company like Danner to boot (no pun intended)

I have bought various boots from Danner over the years. Usually the seconds come in at about 1/2 of firsts. My Ft Lewis boots were 100$ ( about 289 for firsts) usually the military ones that are seconds do not pass mil-spec. Its pretty hard to find the defect in them. A great place if they have what you want in stock. Figure out what you want before you go up, its too easy to compromise when you get there. The US built Danners will last for decades with proper care. I would suggest the Gore-tex lined ones for the NW weather. Ive had mine since the 1st gulf war, been resoled 3X.

How can you go to Portland and come back empty handed? There so much stuff to buy here that your trip is worthwhile no matter what loss. Just make sure you are looking for other stuff while your in Portland other than Danner boots. Like visit AONW or something..

All due respect......that is exactly why you make plans so you dont spend your money foolishly on stuff you do not need

Danner actually makes the boots in Portland, he'll it used to be that you could hear the factory when you were at the factory store.

Well, thanks for the info guys. I do appreciate the feedback on the Danner Outlet store and their typical stock on hand.

Just to clarify a couple of things that have been brought up (unsolicited):

-HEAT, I agree with DJ with the fact that I do not need to plan a trip to Portland just to go impulse spend. Contrary to belief, we do have places called stores in Corvallis as well as an internet connection to buy things too. But as a country folk, I do appreciate the input. :D (spits in spittoon, and puts the piece of straw back in mouth)

-Nike…..I actually love Nike shoes. I am an Air Jordan fan. They have always fit my feet better than most shoes for running and basketball, so that is what I wear the most. I know sweat shops exist, and Nike takes a bad rap for it, but I will buy them anyways. As mentioned, there are many other companies that make many other products in sweat shops that go unnoticed and un-talked about. But one key factor that I would like for my boots is the water proof (or at least resistant). I know the Nike SFB is designed to help wick the moisture away quickly and keep your feet dry, but here in the NW, I would like a little more than that. The Danner boots were my choice for that reason. I am sorry that political quarrels started in my thread about the outlet store’s inventory. :D

I have the Danner Strikers and can walk through puddles without getting my feet wet. They're pretty heavy (mine have the safety toe, don't know how much weight that adds) and my feet sweat like crazy during the summer, though.

Word is that some of the boots come from china.
