Silverton "Pellet gun" scare *6/10 UPDATE*

Discuss anything and everything here that's Airsoft related.

Postby Chachi » Thu Jun 10, 2010 2:05 pm

I think you guys are missing the point. Think from the standpoint of the lay-person here. They don't know airsoft guns, they definitely don't know real steel either. The lay-person kind of panics when they see a gun of any kind other than a bright pnk and yellow squirt gun. Bottom line is that the one dude shouldn't have been walking to get his mail with a gun of any kind (unless licensed w/ a CWP and it is hidden).

With the kids running around with AS guns, the theoretical little old lady who sees a group of kids with real looking guns just thinks about the school and post office shootings, not whether or not they made an actual firing sound or anything. They aren't "idiots" for thinking this way when they have no idea that they are replicas that shoot plastic pellets.

We have to be overly careful, and not assume that everyone knows they aren't real guns. Period. Most of us do that, it is just these idiots who ruin the repuation of our hobby.

Oregon Is an open carry state. He could've walked to get his mail with a real handgun if he wanted to. As long as he didn't make any threats or point his weapon at anyone. He isn't breaking the law.

edit: As far as I know, open carry isn't legal in Portland, Beaverton and Tualatin

1.) Propaganda works both ways. Airsoft is a misnomer, too. (see number 3)
2.) BBs are pellets, airsoft replicas are pellet guns.
3.) Airsoft replicas can cause damage.

I remember seeing a convinience store in Silverton had some cheap UK arms springers. A good solution to all this may be to limit the sales of airsoft so that places like convience stores can't sell them. Maybe some sort of liscensing that only businesses, that make a large portion of their profit on airsoft, would feel the need to obtain a liscense. This would limit availability and potentialy keep some of these stupid people from getting their hands on airsoft guns.

Ah, thank you for the clarification there. But, the point remains, legal or not, the general public may freak out a bit seeing a random guy in his shorts and slippers walking to get his mail with a gun in his hand. Come on, picture that in your head, and I quote.....a scruffy male, in yellow and white shorts, a dark t-shirt, and fuzzy bath slippers....with a gun. I too think I may be a little concerned with that picture.

I verify I my concealed pistol, keep an eye on him and move on.
Though, I'm:
A) A responsible & legally armed citizen.
B) Not prone to just freaking out because someone has a firearm, replica or fuzzy slippers.

Don't be afraid of freedom . In a country where you have the right to bear arms , Don't be surprised if you see someone exercising that right . For My freedom , I have to put up with Your freedom . Love it or leave it . :p

I say the cops weren't too bright either still.
We want 'em to know if they're gonna leave a bomb on the side of the road, first, we're just gonna blow up their little f**kin road.

Hey, I don't live there anymore.

I think I know everyone who is on AP in Silverton, and I seriously doubt it was any of them.

Not true, what i meant was that these people could be some of those random people we see make an intro and never here from again, or they may post every so often. i wouldn't doubt it that they are on the forums.

Whenever a new guys make an intro thread I find out where he lives.
If he lives in Silverton I go to his house and tell him not to do any dumb shit. I'll be watching.

True story.
