Thinking of coming over to the GBB dark side

Discussion of GBB (gas blowback) replicas.

The KWA will be awesome, from what I've seen of the pre-production models. However, it may end up being over $400.

I agree, on both accounts. It'll be awesome, but awesome comes at a price I guess.

So here's the plans I've thought of:

1. Get the AGM, replace the hop-up, bolt face, and get a few good magazines. See where to go from there.

2. Get the VFC, seeing as they have a very good reputation in the AEG industry, and hopefully it'll translate into the GBB realm. Get more mags, work on the externals.

I'm still leaning a bit towards the AGM, simply because it's compatable with WA parts and it'll give me experience working on gas guns, since I'll have to replace the parts above anyway. But I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Just a question, does anyone know how often Ebairsoft gets their new stuff in stock? They've got one of the CQB AGM M4's and the normal M4 without the RIS, but the others are out. If I did end up getting one, I'd rather just get the one with the rails on it instead of shelling out another $60 for an aftermarket set.

FWIW, the VFC GBBR uses the prowin style hopup which means you can use normal AEG barrels and buckings right out of the box, so no need to mess with the GBB ones :D

Another quick inquiry here, what should I use to clean/lubricate a GBB? Silicone spray, [sarcasm]WD40[/sarcasm], what exactly? The first thing I'm going to do to any new gun is make sure everything moves the way it should.

You want lightweight silicone oil on all the valves and o-rings. You want a slightly heavier silicone lubricant or silicone grease on parts that come in moving contact with other parts, like the bolt carrier. On an area such as the bolt carrier, where it's moving a lot and rubbing on the inside of the receiver and buffer tube, silicone oil will run right off.

Make sure you use blue loctite on any parts inside the bolt that are screwed into place so they don't come undone.

Sorry for the huge necro, but I just wanted to update things a bit.

First off, Thanks ranger5150! Lots of great info on that site, just what I was looking for.

Secondly: So, I'm ordering an AGM RIS from Ebaybanned tonight, anything I should know about ordering from them? What's shipping like? I'm not going to cry if I have to wait a week or two, but how reliable are they when it comes to updating me with payment notifications, shipping details, etc? I know I probably sound like a noob, but it's my first time ordering from an overseas retailer.

Also, what mags work well in the AGM? There's no way in hell I'm paying $70 for a bomber mag, so are there any more economic options?

Again, sorry for the necro, just testing the waters a bit.

No problem as far as mags are concerned ghk mags will work and they are 50 bucks a pop and as a plus you can mod them to be pmags.

Also, does the AGM have regular 14mm threading, or is it counter-clockwise? I was thinking of getting a KX3 replica, or one of the Sound Hogs from EBairsoft.

Does it actually make the gun louder, or is mostly just for looks?

It increases the sound of the gun but there are two versions one increases the sound the other doesn't just make sure you get the right one.
