OPORD (Operations Order)
Situation:
1.Enemy: DRAT/808th infantry operates light infantry patrols throughout the Area of Operation (AO). Expect to encounter squad sized emplaced/entrenched units.
2.Friendly: PLA operates in platoon strength and conducts training and sweeps of the AO.
3.Weather: Rain and mist. Temperature approximately 45 to 55 Fahrenheit. The weather is a neutral factor in offensive and defensive operations. Visibility approximately 300 feet or less depending upon precipitation. Damp ground cover affords some maneuver advantage to the offense by mitigating noise.
4.Terrain. Moderately light to medium density coniferous forest with light slope, uneven terrain, and light undergrowth favor a prepared defense by offering adequate visibility and fields of fire. Cover consists of deadfall and heavy trees with undulating terrain forming natural depressions. Concealment consists of light undergrowth and secondary tree growth of deciduous nature. A stream cuts across a portion of the AO.
a.Roads: The major avenue of movement consists of a two lane paved to hard pack road which flanks the AO on its southern boundary and runs roughly south to north. The road is capable of supporting vehicles at speeds of 20 MPH. Various logging trails and gravel roads intersect the AO and support movement of light vehicles and light infantry patrols.
b.Elevation: Differentials of several hundred feet with up to 15% slope in some areas, steeper at the embankments of water courses.
c.Water: Alder Creek runs generally north to south in a ten foot depression with light to heavy vegetation impeding movement into its embankments. The creek is passable, but the current is swift during the wet season and the stream is knee to waist deep. Placed under fire, the stream affords an advantage to the defense as an obvious danger area and natural obstacle.
d.Built up areas. A village is reported to be in the AO. Intelligence indicates it consists of six to eight ramshackle, wooden structures.
