The problem with Mythbusters is that they often go outside the realms of the myth and make in any effort to make the myth at least "plausible".

I don't know how they'd do it, but I can see them trying to reinforce the receivers, and if they can get at least one bullet going down range, regardless of what happens to the shooter or gun, they'll slap on the "plausible" verdict.

I wouldn't even approach them.

Not to mention that it will circulate this story to those I mentioned earlier, and regardless of what Adam, Jamie, and Co. conclude, they'll run with it.

As far as I know someone already posted it a few weeks ago when this fiasco started. Someone even linked to the page where it was being discussed on the Mythbusters site I believe. I'll see if I can find the thread....

It's ironic that the article tries to bring up how horrible airsoft replicas are because you can convert them...then in the latter half of the article an ATF official states that you can literally make anything into a receiver, and thus made to fire live ammo.

Does this mean that they should start banning milling machines and similar tools that anyone has access to and can use to create their own firearm? If you are going to place restrictions on airsoft replicas because they "can be converted fire live ammo", then you would have to limit anyone's free-will so they could not create "easily-convertible to live fire" items. I could find 20+ things around my house that could be converted to fire live ammo, should all those items be banned/restricted?

I thought they said all the guns would be destroyed...

Customs agents nab shipment of machine guns in Tacoma artical wrote:Further inspection by Alcohol, Firearm and Tobacco agents concluded the guns in their current format were designed to shoot plastic balls, but by replacing a few internal components with machine gun components, the guns would be able to fire live ammunition.

The guns are destined to be destroyed.

It can be said that there is no bad publicity...

That article won't change anyone's mind. People who say "that is horrible" would be anti-airsoft regardless of whether it said you could or could not convert a replica to real steel.

However, the vast majority of people are reading that article and then Googling 'airsoft' and learning more about it.... and a portion of them are thinking "This looks cool!" and are going to give it a try.

It has happened for decades in paintball... a TV show or movie shows paintball as a bunch of psychopaths or with poor safety standards (no facemasks, taking goggles off, etc). The newer players in the hobby raise a stink but the veterans know that there will be a fresh crop of beginners showing up in the next several months because of it.

More ATF lies!!!

Read it more carefully, it just says they tested an identical replica, not the actual replicas seized by the ATF.

Some people consider that something to raise a stink about. ;)

Fox News really has this fear-mongering thing down. They got those panic-inducing keywords out in the first sentence like "Now ILLEGALS and TERRORISTS can get a GUN in AMERICA".
I wonder how the other news sites would feel about Fox claiming an "Exclusive" to the story.

They have exclusively picked up a story that is months old

They have exclusively added the terrorism and illegal aliens crap onto said story.
