Rhododendron Wars, 5/22, Florence, Oregon

Postby Skywalker » Sat May 01, 2010 12:42 am

Saturday, 1:00PM

Rhododendron Wars is a lower-key skirmish that I've hosted twice before near Florence, Oregon. I host it on this particular weekend because there is a fairly famous local festival that takes place at this time every year which celebrates the blooming of the Rhododendrons. Come down and enjoy the festivities (in the sun, quite likely), play some airsoft. Chillax. See a parade.

A few years ago, I held this event on some land a bit east of Florence, off of HWY 126 (which runs Eugene-Veneta-Florence), by an area called Cushman. As of now, we haven't nailed down the venue yet, but we're thinking we'll go for the same place. It was good times before, and there's a variety of terrain there.

The Rhododendron festival has a car show, "Rhody Run" (5k and 10k, I'm running one of these), Davis Carnival, and a Grand Parade on Sunday (among many other things). Check out the list of events at this link, just scroll down to see the schedule.

I love it! Come smell the flowers, run a 5K, watch a parade, relax & shoot people!

Sounds fun. We've got a PLA Training Day 22-23, so if you could possibly do it the 21st (Friday) I'd come out.

I hear the Florence games are pretty fun

My grandfather usually drives either his Model T or Model A in the parade. You may have seen it before.

Would vote for Saturday afternoon, though Sunday would work. At least two of us...call us 75% certain. Will firm up in the next two days. Might be able to field two more players, but will not know that until Sunday afternoon.

I've probably seen it, yeah.

Saturday....Friday....well. Need more opinions. Personally, I'd rather do it Saturday. But that's just me.

I'll be there. Can I bring friends? And what do you envision for teams?

I think Saturday would be better. It's possible that I could show up, but I need a time and date first, and I need to know what I'm already committed to that weekend.

It's looking like Saturday would be best.

On Sunday, by the way, I'm hosting an Ultimate Frisbee game at Miller Park, in Florence proper. It'll be super low-key/skill in general, but I just thought I'd mention it. Ultimate frisbee is awesome stuff.

Hey luke, what do you invision for teams and scenario? And Viper, I would say friends would be okay as long as they sign the waiver. You may want to email Skywalker before you take my word for it though.

Saturday for sure. Directions soon.

Teams determined by Camo is most likely. I might try to get some cloth for colored armbands, but I don't really like that method.
