Do WW2 reenactors speak their respective languages?

Nope.

Dan (Daruis137) has a game sometime in the future where we get to have a class in basic language of Arabic (Afghan culture, and language, Traditional cook, and other neat stuff) so we can learn culture stuff and take the Americans lack of proper body signs and language as a excuse to attack them during the game.

In the PNWHG if you weren't fluent in german (a few of our guys were, myself not so much) you learned it. We drilled in german, sang in german, and during kamradenschaft we drank in german (RUMPLEMINTZ!!!). On the battlefield the Oscha and Uscha could often be overheard strategizing back and forth in deutsch. It's often called living history, so it's as historically immersive and accurate as they can possibly make it.

I don't need Google translator, I actually learn languages. Learning meaningless phrases is, as I already said, meaningless. I hate it when idiotic kids and wannabe skinheads at school think they are speaking German. They have horrible pronunciation and no verb conjugation. Accent isn't expected though.

Currently I am taking Spanish in school and learning German on my own. My main problem is word placement, where an adverb or adjective goes.. I find German music to help a lot in where/how to put words in a sentence. Rammstein's Du Hast song taught me the basics of the mich, dich idea. However not all that thoroughly. I find Oomph! to be pretty good as they speak in a easier to understand way.

Although I was born in Germany, I don't speak a lick of German. Dad does but I have no desire to learn it, Spanish is far more useful hence my major.

But, I do agree with all the OP's that said hearing the language is far more immersive and realistic than any gun, grenade, or explosion on the battlefield.

I'm still learning any phrases or words needed at an event. I am planning to learn and speak fluent German and Russian to cover all my bases, maybe even French for a partisan impression. But I'm not sure if an event organizer should make you speak in a different language, or you're about to add loads of troops to the American side. lol. It does add to the realism however.

Being fluent in a language is very hard, it's cool that you have aspirations of being fluent but it is very difficult unless you are fully immersed in the language for long periods of time...
