except then there will be an influx of piano triggers. at least with the bolts they have to draw the bolt before every shot.

SOTA is doing that at Ash Bash, and I know of a number of other games in the works that are going to be using tiered FPS limits.

at a field called LZ5 down here in california we have the same standard outdoor limits, but it is 450 fps for DMR type rifles that have to have fixed semi auto fire. the engagement distances are also stratified. 100 for sniper rifles, 75 for DMR and then 25 for AEG with a safety kill inside that and a 10 foot safety kill for pistols/sidearms

It will go down to 400ish when you "break-in" the spring. You could compress your spring as well for a simple easy way to downgrade your gun.

Compressing your spring isn't going to drop 20 FPS, dooder. Fix your signature.

that would make it shoot faster, or if you mean storing it compressed, that just makes it less consistent really

Storing the spring compressed can knock a few FPS off your gun. Usually between two and five in my experience.

Also, This all depends on who, what, and when you are playing with people.

AP games run the 400 FPS AEG thing, Other places run 450 FPS on AEGs, And some are only 350 FPS AEG on outdoor games, it depends on where you wanna play.

fps

Postby malik » Tue Mar 23, 2010 9:13 am

Okay, so I guess I can see why there is an fps limit, but at the same time, it should be a pretty lose thing. Like +-25, because it should hurt a little bit. Half the people use body armor vests anyway don't they? As well as face masks... So, if you don't have some good gear and you get shot, you should feel the pain somewhat. Plus the matter, AP is about mil-sim correct? I am pretty sure getting shot hurts in real-life. Just a guess, but I think it does.

+1 for "it should hurt a little bit." Muhahaha!

Maybe it has something to do with how much force the rated eye protection can take? i don't know, just throwing it out there.

Didn't AP use a 450fps standard a while back? Wonder what the catalyst was in changing that...

We've never had a 450fps standard. We've tried to discuss changing the FPS limits for DMRs and even squad guns at one point but in almost all cases people bitched about it and the subject was dropped. 400 across the board is simple. We compared limits from organizations all over the world before we posted our rule set, it's pretty much middle of the road - some are lower, some are higher.

For every one person who wanted DMR at a higher velocity, there were about 10 who didn't. The more complicated you make it, the harder it is to enforce.

We'll see how it works for the other folks who are trying it. If they don't have an influx of complaints and injuries, maybe we'll look at it again.

Another valid question is what most insurance companies will allow. I know that many of them have FPS limits specified. If they found an event allowed higher FPS than they allow, they could deny a claim and the organizer would be liable.

AP Standards are a guideline... It is not an entity that makes laws..

with that being said, if an Event Promoter wants to have a 500fps game that is their right. Now they may not have anybody in attendance...but thats their right to host a game if they want.

 this subject always comes around every few months.

Thanks setting me straight.
My comment reference to an AP 450fps sbeing allowed at one point was taken in part from this...
matt wrote:Quote:

SAW/LMG (ARs with Box Mags will NOT qualify, safety class required to exceed 400) - 450 fps (1.88j)
Sniper Rifles (Bolt Action ONLY, safety class required) - 650 FPS (3.9j)
CQB/Indoor - All under 300 fps (0.8j)

...followed by this:
Matt wrote:EDIT JULY 16th 2009 - THIS IS NOT THE CURRENT AP FPS LIMIT. CURRENT LIMITS ARE 0.20/400-AEG, 0.20/550-BOLT and 0.20/330-INDOOR.

...which is why i thought there may have been a catalyst last year that eliminated the 450fps option.

Sorry man, some of us noobs actually read through all the stickies (and sometimes even remember what we've read) ;)
