FPS Limits?

Postby Moparspanky » Tue Mar 16, 2010 9:58 am

I have a question about FPS limits. I am thinking of purchasing a KWA KM4S and the gun is rated at 380-400 fps. Some reviews chrono it at 410-420fps. I have not attended many organized events but it does seem like there is a 400 fps limit on AEG's. How hard and fast is that limit?

Thanks,

Outdoor play limit is 400 fps and 330 for indoor play for AEGs.

Some places will let you play even if your gun is over the limit, you just have to watch engagement distances.

How hard and fast? umm, so, so, hard & fast.
For realls, not sure what you're looking for there.

If it helps, seems to me that most people think that 400fps 'target' is more bragging rights than anything else. Plenty of people kicking a$$ on the field because of skills, not fire power.

Just for clarification, I'm not considering a KWA for the FPS spec, I'm looking for a more reliable AEG as I've had numerous CA and ECHO 1 gearboxes blow up on me. I've been pretty happy with low to mid 300's for the most part. I've read that the reinforced gearbox is LiPo ready and has good reliability.

400 is the generally accepted limit. How much wiggle room there is depends on who the event host is.

The KWA is a good shooter, I recommend them.

Glad to hear the KWAs are reliable. I've had my eyes on the KWA M4A1 CQB for a while. Very similar to what I use at work.

AEG springs vary, and they are almost always different velocity than the manufacturers claim. You may need to expect to drop another spring in there if you are much higher than 400.

I've had 2 KWA's the both shoot at right around 405-410. I haven't had any problem getting into games.

Just make sure you don't spray full auto at people at point blank range and I don't think you'll have any issues if your stock gun is shooting a couple FPS north of 400.

If it is shooting above 410, THEN you are gonna run into some issue passing chrono. I know Wombatsix was running an M90 spring in his KWA and it was still shooting just over 400, but for the most part a KWA should just scrape in within the limit.

the latest KWAs that ive seen (the SR-10 and SR12, the SR-5 is lower) have been right at 400 on the dot.

when i run chrono at events, i typically give it three shots through the chrono. if two of the three are over 405, its a no-go.

I know this is a long running discussion but I still think they need to implement a new rule regarding semi auto only DMRs.

Are you thinking increase the fps limit? Maybe between snipers and AEGs?

They should increase the FPS on Semi Auto DMRs weapons. Not to the degree of Bolts but still increase it as long as you can prove your weapon can not fire Fully automatic.
