Cool Custom Mask Project

Postby vibora » Tue Sep 01, 2009 5:36 pm

Hey Guys,

I've been looking for a way to have full face protection for CQB, but without using a paintball mask. I can't stand the feel or visiblity, and I can't put a gun into a good cheek weld. Sooo...I was looking into gas masks and other options when I found this.

I haven't seen anything like this made before, and, honestly, it would be the coolest full face mask ever, with the good feel and visibility I'm looking for (and its intimidating ;) ). I think I could use a pilots oxygen mask (without the tube) for a starting point, but I don't know where I'd be able to find one for less than $50. I was also considering a shop mask with some sort of a plastic cover over it, but I'm not much good at fabricating.

Any advice or other ideas on this project?

problem, is that mask gives you neither good visibility or even the remote chance of a cheek weld, here go look at this>>> http://www.airsoftpost.com/vtech-airsof ... 30226.html <<<that will give you the best visibility possible and is the best chance to have a full cheek weld while still having a full face mask, and plus it has a built in fan. besides your idea would require you to make some sort of custom lens that still has to be airsoft safe.

You could always use a mesh faceplate instead of having to worry about fitting the right size lens.

but you are gonna have cheek weld issues...as far as visibility, can't really tell from the drawing how much it would limit it.

I non-paintball style mask is going to be hard to come by if your looking for good visible full faced mask. The army of two mask is pretty much only good for day time because the mesh darkens thinks, i think a black balaclava, goggles and a black helmet would be the best bet for cheeck protection, visibility, and look wise (keeping the other two in mind).

yeah... gas mask is not a good idea. unless you've trained with a gas mask before, you'll probably collapse about 15 minutes into the game.

or you could remove the filter. i also have one where i replaced the lenses with mesh, which negated both fogging and airflow. still kinda hard to hear the wearer talk though.

The old gas mask I bought at some store in Bend has a specific voice through part that lets the user be heard more clearly.

the round part above the filter is designed for better clearness of speech, but you're still wearing something that slightly impedes your ability to communicate.
