Tabuk

Postby Zack » Sun Jan 24, 2010 11:57 pm

I am looking into making a Tabuk for a DM platform. For those of you who don't know, a Tabuk is basically an RPK sans bi-pod, with a lighter barrel (a DM barrel does not need to take the same punishment that a LMG barrel does), some internal modifications, skeletonized butt-stock, and single shot only.

My airsoft intent: RPK sans bi-pod, precision barrel, better hop-up unit (if needed), skeletonized buttstock, and internal work.

Being a semi-auto device, responsiveness is my watchword. I've heard using bearing instead of bushings will help that. Can anyone give me any more suggestions for improving the trigger response on an RPK being fired in semi-auto.

There's also the question of which RPK to be used as a base. I know very little about SRC or CA internals.

Any actual help or insight that can be offered is much appreciated.

This sounds a lot like you want to build a Dragunov SVD.

Is this the gun you're looking for?

Bearings can help with responsiveness, also using a higher Amp battery (like a LiPo).

Like Cow point out though, you'd do well starting with a CA SVD or one of those funny Springer SVDs that take AEG internals.

Long time now see, are you back from Iraq Zach?

Not back yet, couple of months. And a Tabuk is not an SVD. A Tabuk, being an RPK receiver, uses AK mags. It was produced in Iraq when they were under arms embargo and couldn't import things like the SVD. Might be visually similar, but not the same. Tim, do you know what the voltage curves on a lipo look like? I was also thinking of just upiing the shit out of the ROF for the purpose of trigger response.

While the RS Tabuk and SVD have huge differences, you will find that their airsoft counterparts should be nil.

For a Tabuk, all you need is an AK47 body, with an SVD style outer barrel and flash hider. I have done research into these because I wanted to make one until JG started making their SVD.
I will pm you some info on the outer barrel.

Get an RPK and customize an SVD stock for it.

Well, I' getting a base platform from a friend for relatively cheap. The bipod and buttstock are broken. So you know, nothing I need. I'll say it one more time, a Tabuk is not a Dragunov. The differences may be subtle, but I will know they're there. Which is awesome, because it's my weapon.

isn't the Tabuk more or less an AK with an elongated barrel, semi-auto, and a scope?

Beran ran something similar, I'm not sure if he still has it. RPK kit without the bi-pod and a normal AK stock. He'd be a good person to ask.

hi guys....sorry to necro post, but I am the proud owner of from what I can tell the only TABUK airsoft replica out there....was searching to see if others had one, but here is mine...

http://stlouisairsoftplayers.com/forum/ ... ight=tabuk

Just thought it would be helpful for you to see one built and to see what all went into it. We currently are having some hop up issues with it, but when it was shooting right, it was a beast...most impressive gun on and off the field!

btw, here is a pic of my precious!
