weather forecast for this weekend /operation end of lies

Postby DJ » Wed Dec 02, 2009 12:17 am

Just used my ag weather forecast service. (usually pretty acurate) supposed to be cloudy / nil chance of precip, but cold, 43 high and at freezing at night.....be prepared for cold, especially if you are camping!

Friggin...great :(
How do you get warmer in a sleeping bag?
Maybe a sleeping bag wool blanket combo?
I don't want to wake up with my eyelids frozen closed again.

Either double up sleeping bags, or get a liner ...the wool blankets work well, be sure to put one underneath. Abe i'm not camping as I live close....If you dont come up with something let me know. I have a goose down sleeping bag I will loan you, rated to 0 degrees

I'm thinking of bringing about 5 blankets to put on top of my sleeping bag.

believe it or not news paper works well to insulate you from the cold ground, then use it to start your fire in the am. as an old winter snow camper, I learned the most important thing is to stay dry, a cheap tarp over the top ( or in a tent) will go a long way. Not to be a party pooper, but avoid too much booze and you will stay much warmer. booze dialates your periphial blood vessels. you get cold. anti freeze it is not. lots of carbs for dinner.

Ya i agree with DJ. Hes got some good pointers. I'm going to buy a liner now that you mention it. I think it will be easier to stay warm partly because there is a high chance of it being dry all weekend. I can't wait to see everyone out there.

I'll be putting the canopy on my truck, and wrapping my sleeping bag in a wool blanket. Hopefully sharing with a teammate will help conserve heat too.
I'll be sure to make ready to treat hypothermia as well. Anybody know if campfires will be allowed?

Abe be sure to wear that stocking cap you are wearing in your picture when you sleep.......thats where most of the body (more than half) heat loss takes place. gonna bring some propane fired space heaters for standin around too.

think the fires are OK, better check with ctac to be sure

That is actually not true. your body loses heat across its surface area more or less evenly. When the rest of you is covered, you lose a lot of heat from your head then the rest by virtue of it not being covered.

I absolutely concur.
