WWII German uniform

At Players of War we are really into WWII but most players go for a fairly realistic impression of their units without becoming too bogged down by detail. This is my impression of 12th SS

There's a difference between a person who has a screwdriver and a person who knows what they are doing.

Nice kit, I was torn between jack boots or hiking boots with gators, but now I'm definatly going for the gators.

Good job on the kit man. Where do you go about purchasing the helmet w/ the pig skin?

Nice impression!

This is the approach that I wish more people would utilize to kickstart WW2 airsoft here. Spend the bulk of the startup costs on the big items first and get close/ play catch up on the smaller bits later. Thats how most blankfire reenactment groups operate. They realize that most people can't throw down for a full impression off the bat so they have a 'bare minimums' list that you need for your first event and then expect you to have at least one new item each successive event.

Gotta start somewhere!

Unless you want to go for the full reenactment uniform and do displays for the public and TV work then an Airsoft loadout just needs to look and feel the part and can be put together very cheaply.

I normally advise those starting as German for example to buy an SS look as it can be done the cheapest i.e Oakleaf patterned BDU trousers for £15, Oakleaf smock £30, a plain grey shirt £10, any hiking or similar boots that you already own, gaiters £6 on ebay and headwear and unit insignia optional at this stage.

At this point a new player has a very basic field ready uniform and won't look out of place among other WWII players. Things like tunic, Y-straps, pouches etc etc all cost extra but can be added to through time. For an hour long game you don't need to be equiped for an assault on Stalingrad and if you are playing a day long game, especially in the heat of the US summer, you'll wish you hadn't worn all that kit!!

Exactly, thats what I've been doing, and trying to convince others to do.

I got lucky with my German impression. I just have to go buy my uniform and smock. My friend has always been a big German collector, so he has boxes of gear I can use, instead of dropping $200 on the stuff here.
I mean, $50 for y straps, really?
