Is this airsoft training, or using airsoft to train for real shooting?

class questions

Postby Jerm_G » Wed Nov 11, 2009 10:12 am

Ladies and Gents I will be your instructor for this class. Prepay info will be posted soon as well as a class roster list and what to bring to class.
Here are some basic FAQs and answers.

Q: What was the reason this class was done for?
A: At the request of police officers, S4 customers and members of AP, it was felt that there was a need for a class that covered laws, gear selection, SAFE airsoft handling and close quarters marksmanship. An airsoft boot camp if you will. The hope is that this course meets those requests in full. I was directly approached and asked to write and present the course.

Q: Why do I need this class?
A: It doesn’t matter how long one has been in this hobby (Seagreen is going and he has been doing it for over 12 years), there are always new tricks to the trade that can be learned. 101 is about basic airsoft handling that speeds up reloads, gets your guns on target faster, and rounds on target first. It is about gear set up, the pros and cons for the different kinds of gear that we use and SAFE airsoft handling. For those who are new, this is a good way to learn some tricks that makes you feel and look less like a "noob" and could save you a LOT of money in gear and guns down the road. For those who have been here a while it is a chance to go back over some stuff that you have learned and I promise you that you will learn some new things as well.

Q: Is this a FIREARMS training course?
A: NO... but some info can carry over. I do teach firearms courses and will gladly teach a real firearms course to this community but you will not see an airsoft gun in my class. If you are interested in getting you certification for concealed carry, basic marksmanship in pistol, or rifle, and tactical carbine courses you can PM me and I can work something out.

Q: Will we be clearing rooms and shooting each other in your class?
A: No, not in the 101 class but you will be doing a lot of shooting. I will be teaching a lot of info in 3 hours. After the class, if you wish to get your gun on, S4 will have general play. I will talk to the owners to see if a deal can be made to cover general play or be able to play for a reduced range fee. That is up to the S4 staff, not me.

Q: Who is the organizer for the event and who should I contact if I have questions about the event in question?
A: Asoper is the organizer for this event. If you have questions about dates, times, or what have you please direct your questions to him. If you have questions about the course material gear requirements/ suggestions, and likewise I would be the person to contact. My personal info will be listed at the end of this post. Feel free to email, call or PM me.

Q: "Instructors" in many (but not all) past airsoft classes have winged it and have had poor course organization. What will be different about this class?
A: This class has been written, finished, taught and adjusted for some time now. All of the in classroom material is in power point format and there is a range schedule that is planned out in detail. I do not teach any class that is less than professional and I have been teaching a large assortment of classes to military and civilians for several years.

Q: Because we will not be shooting at each other, I have an airsoft gun but it shoots at outdoor speeds, can I still use it?
A: No the velocity requirements are not set by me but by S4 Tactical and the airsoft insurance company that they have to protect you and them. I will not have what has happened at a recent class that was not taught by me, S4, or Black Sierra Productions where students were injured because guns were not checked and 450+ FPS guns were allowed into the class. EVERY AIRSOFT GUN WILL BE CRONOGRAPHED USING .20 BBs AND CHECKED BY S4 Staff OR MY SELF. If your gun does not meet field speeds S4 has plenty of guns to rent in the following platforms: M4, AK74, MP5, and G36C.

Q: Why is the class being taught at S4 Tactical?
A: This is for 2 reasons. One is that the arena is in doors and modular. The second is because as of when I checked last, S4 was the only field in the Portland Metro area that has insurance specially for airsoft to protect S4 tactical, the customers and yours truly if any problems however unlikely should occur.

Again if you have any questions on the details of the class, feel free to ask by post, pm, email, or phone call.

What do we wear ? Our gear or civilian? Also if our gun is over 350 FPS can we just not do any skirmishes but still bring it for the classes?

FPS

Postby Jerm_G » Sun Nov 29, 2009 1:17 pm

-FPS-
The reason for the FPS lock is because it is what the field requires in order to continue to operate safely and continue to have their airsoft insurance. S4 does how ever have lots of guns for rent and has an airsoft tech on site. If you would like to shoot your AEG and you know it runs hot, you can always swing by the day before and Seagreen will be able to do the upgrade downgrade for you.

-TODAY-
I will be down at S4 today from 1pom to 6pm to answer any and all questions about the training course. This is a 1st installment of a multiple level class that teaches you Close Quarters Marksmanship. CQM is a fundamental skill that is left out of almost every CQB class.
Today is S4's last day where all inventory is 10% off. Feel free to swing by and see what is available while prices are low. So come on down and get your gun on!

As far as gear, bring what ever you want. Personally I suggest long pants, knee pads, your chest rig if you have one, one spare magazine at minimum, and a sling. There will be limited chest rigs available for people to use if needed. If anyone needs to barrow a chest rig please PM me and let me know. I have 2 spares available.
