the camo is goddamn hard to find, as is "correct" period 70s gear. some of the fireforce units used the british pattern 58 web gear and chicom stuff as well as the more commonly issued rhodie vests and chest rigs. the rhodie vests are stupid easy to find these days, although they are slightly different in layout and color. the FAL, G3A3, AK47 and the occasional M16A1 were all relatively commonly seen battle rifles between line units and the more elite outfits (in that order).
as for FALs, ive owned all three that are currently available. the King Arms was alright, but i bought it broken and never bothered to fix it properly, so i traded it to panzerfaust for something and he got it up and running. i never was terribly happy with the feel of the rifle though. the Classic Army SA58 is a fantastic gun, but is based on the newer FAL style rifles by DSA, so while it is a FAL it is not period correct. there are also no midcap or standard mags for it, only hicaps. the STAR L1 is a damn nice piece, it comes semiauto but is easily modified to full or you can buy a piece to change it over. the STAR feels almost like the real thing, and has an extremely long barrel, which is great for accuracy. mags are difficult or expensive (or both) to find for all three.
ive got the start of a period correct fireforce loadout with the old 1970s style rhodesian pattern bdus, M58 gear, and a chicom AK chest rig but ive found it far easier to create a modified "modern" look like a south african mercenary holdout from the apartheid days might look today. a soft armor vest with a chest rig on top of it and off the shelf belt/dropleg gear as needed. add in a "clean" weapon that could be easily purchased on the open market (like AKs, HKs, SIGs, etc) and it makes for a pretty neat modernized variation on the old rhodesian look. ive also found a similar pattern thats just different enough to look new called "Safariflauge" on the web. pants are easy to find, but jackets are a phony pony.
kind of like what variable is sporting here:

also, i don't care if it is the way they did it, i wouldn't paint my rifles like that. it may work in the african bush, but its not going to help you any in the pacnw.
