Don't start that shit again.

I do find it funny, though, that a guy that's never served gets all bent out of shape over it based on some principle that somehow offends him and the Marine is the one telling him to pick add rank insignia to his impression. ;)

Wearing rank insignia is fine with me, as long as that person is not running around saying "look I'm a captain!" Which is not believable of a Marine anyway, since the wear of the camoflauge utility uniform in garrison is authorized on base and on the trip to and from base only, unless you are on duty. You aren't even authorized to leave your vehicle to pump gas (unless you are on duty, in which case you should be at the fuel farm on base anyway).

The Marine Corps doesn't use patches like the Army. The only patches they have are the name tape and the Marine Corps tape on the chest. They don't use velcro on their uniforms. Nice load out though.

One thing I would add is that Marines usually don't put their gear directly onto the IBA. They usually wear a molle type vest and put it all on that.

They also usually have the longer barrels, but since you're an officer, I'll let it slide. As an officer, you should also have a 9mm beretta somewhere.

Every now and then people try it directly on the vest, but usually the guys who stay in the vehicles do that, to keep their profile slimmer.

It's hell to walk around with the stuff direclty on the vest, considering how many more pouches you need to add (canteens, candy bag, cigarette pouch, drop leg, etc.)

So Darius, do they usually wear the IBA and only load up their extra MOLLE vest when they need it to keep weight down when they're bumming around?

I'm agree, but it's just funny to wear some patches.

Well they have it all combined now, but back then the vest was separate.

A lot of the time for training you need your web gear, but not your vest. And if you keep them separate, you don't have to lug around the extra (worthless) kevlar.

Or a lot of the time, you need your protective gear (IBA + helmet) but not your web gear.
