If you do WWII - this is the event you have been waiting for! If you've never done WWII - this is the event to start!! This will be the 4th Battle of the Bulge event hosted by Battlesim.com and we think it is going to be the best one yet! Registration will open in early November.

Set at the closing of the Bulge, Allied units will have their hands full trying to open up lines defended by pockets of German units. By 15 January, Seventh Army’s VI Corps was fighting on three sides in Alsace. With casualties mounting, and running short on replacements, tanks, ammunition, and supplies, Seventh Army was forced to withdraw to defensive positions on the south bank of the Moder River.

The temperature during January 1945 was extremely low. Trucks had to be run every half hour or the oil in them would freeze, and weapons would freeze. The offensive went forward regardless!

There will be rental kits available, please check out our forums. There isn't an age limit, we just ask that everyone is mature.

Long Winter 2009 FAQ/update,

If you have any Q's not covered here please post them in this thread:

http://www.battlesim.com/forums/viewtop ... 221&t=9679

1. Can I be German or is that a fixed OPFOR role?

This year we have opened registrations for both sides. The format of the event allows both sides the ability to succeed or fail at the Platoon and Company level. Obviously we cant change history and your actions will not change the actions of regiments and divisions but specific platoon level objectives (at the tactical level) will influence the battle at a company (strategic) level.

2.What Units are involved, can I be an SS Fallschirmjaeger or SAS commando?

Although we welcome any impression we reccomend a impression that depicts the average enlisted man from one of these units.

German Units :

HEER:
18th Volksgrenadier
3rd Panzer Grenadier Division

Waffen SS
1st SS Div
9th SS Div

Luftwaffe
KG Van Der Hyte (Any Late war FJ Regiment impression)

US Units:
30th ID
82nd AB
106th ID

3. Why these units, did you just randomly pick them?

All of these units where involved in fighting in or around the town of St. Vith during the closing stages of the Ardennes offensive (late Dec early Jan 1944)

4. Can I ship my guns or equipment to the site if I am traveling?

Yes. PM RangerWarren, 2nd Bat, or Hellmutt about any equipment shipping or other travel related concerns.

5. Will there be food, tents, toilet paper?

Period (reproduction) rations will be provided to both sides as part of the cost of the event. Catered chow will be available for a small fee for those with discerning palletes. Battlesim will provide military tentage for every player, we also have some cots and sleeping bags available on a first come first serve basis. There will be TP .

6. I hear it's cold there can I bring my north face sleeping bag?

Yes it is cold here although not Snow and frozen tundra cold. The puget sound tends to keep thing cold and damp instead of rock solid frozen. You may bring whatever modern camping gear you wish however we ask that once you have moved in to your tent your farb items stay in your tent.

7. How do we get points, what color are the flags we have to raise to capture objectives?

There are no points. There are objectives, if you complete your missions you will find yourself attacking and fighting at a distinct advantage. If you fail you may find yourself constantly defending, retreating and short on reinforcements and supplies. Battlesim events are about the experience and simulation of WW2 infantry combat. As a combat veteran I don't aim to make combat a "game" . This being said my goal is to share the experience of infantry combat with you in as positive a way as possible. This means 10k movements become 500m movements, foxholes are pre-dug, and the battle grinds to a natural lull during chow times. This does not however mean you will not do any walking, preparing of fighting positions or that your chow cannot be interrupted by the enemy.
