for sleepy i have an lmf II of my own and the sheath holds it extraordinarily well even with out using the double strap so never fear it falling out... just watch out for the glass breaker that mother hurts

I myself carry a couple of different knives while airsofting and hiking both. The only time i have actually ever thought of using a knife was when at a game a cougar walked by not twenty feet away. He could of put some major smack down on me. Talk about scaring the crap out of me. But at that field i carry a 8 inch survival knife. Other wise i carry a gerber hunting knife. I live in medford and their are places that you dont walk thru unless you have a black sweat shirt and are not wearing any red or blue.

Trying to use a knife on a cougar is like standing in front of a tank with flowers. Sure, the effort is there, but you're just going to wind up dead anyway.

Cougars (big cats in general) will naturally avoid humans - hell, for the most part they avoid their own kind except to shazaam each other. They do not view humans as a food source. Yell at them and make yourself look bigger (open your coat jacket, jump up and down, etc) and they will bail out, unless you're trying to take food from them or if you're bleeding with their young. There is no need to carry an 8-inch knife with you for "cougar defense."

I've worked at a zoo for the past 3 years and spent 3 weeks working with big cats. We were all given Bear Spray in case anything happened. We all carried knives, but they were utility. None of us would want to try to fight off a 500lb lion, or 350 Siberian-bengal tiger.

Although I am personally into the M9 Bayonet, I will not wear one at an airsoft event because I have seen too many replica M9's and do not want to confuse mine with a fake. Instead I now carry a different model that is military issue as well.

The sheath can be secured easily to most any web gear, vest, or leg. Once the knife has been secured it will not stand much chance of accidental removal. The tang is full size and limits the chance of rundown, the blade spine is also capable of sawing through thick wood and other objects quickly if needed. The handle is insulated, and the pommel works as both a plexiglass breaker and as a hammer. If you buy the complete kit it also includes a line cutter that will cut vines, twine, and even seatbelts (also has a screwdriver head). Overall this is a very handy tool for emergencies as well as general utility.

Average price for the whole set is around $125, and comes in either green or black. I carried the green model, need to get another one though since my ex took my last one.

I used to carry a Boker Applegate-Fairbourne fixed blade on my thigh rig, but after a month or so, the darn thing got irritating. I finally realized that for a little more weight and less size, I could carry an extra mag for my secondary and just carry my Benchmade in my pocket for opening stuff. About my only gripe is that the Infidel is plain-edged. I really need to get off my rear end and have the back blade edge partially serrated, and then it will be perfect.

I, personally, have never seen anyone end up using one of the ginormous fighting knives for anything more serious than opening boxes. I have seen a couple of the guys end up accidentally cutting themselves using them to open things that a pocket knife was much better suited to open. Like letters. Seriously.

I know I am very much in the minority here, but I really think that carrying a real-steel fixed blade onto an airsoft field where people are carrying training knives is bad form. Airsoft and real steel should not mix in any form. Although pocket knives and multitools are fine in my world since they are more akin to tools than weapons.
