Perscription glasses questions.

Postby Wolf » Wed Oct 26, 2005 12:54 pm

My friend wears glasses an is wondering if you have any ideas as to what he should wear in the way of eye protection. He has a kind of stigmatisim that does'nt allow him to wear contacts. When he wears goggles his glasses fog up. Is there any good goggles that allow alot of airflow? Or do you know perhaps a company that makes perscription shooting glasses?

Thanks in advance. :)

At Sears you can get RecSpecs, they're basically goggles for racketball and other activities, they'll cover up about as much as typical shooting glasses will and you can get them in prescription. Mine ran $300, but at the time sears was running "buy one pair, get another for free" and I needed new glasses anyway.. I got the glasses and then the recspecs for free. They fog a little bit, but I can usually see out of them, some models breath better than others.

WileyX also offers prescription for their non-ballistic style eyewear, in most cases those are much more expensive.

I've tried mesh over glasses, it just creates a pocket of hot air over your glasses and fogs them even worse.

I just use some cheap safety glasses from Fred Myers. They work fine, I've noticed alot of fogging with them though because of the colder weather.

Gee, thanks Hoff, that's helpful. We're talking about prescription goggles here, chief. Did you even read the guy's post? Or did you just see "goggles" and feel the urge to respond?

I wear perscription glasses when I play. The safety glasses fit over them and my personal experience with goggles was not great. I was just trying to help but someone always has to be snappy and complain about something.

I use Adidas Evil Eyes, or something like that, with perscription inserts. These things are great, I've never had them fog up on me once. I got them at this place on Burnside, right across from Music Millennium. They specialize in protective eyeware so you'll lot of frames and stiles to choose from. Prices were depend on what frame you select and your perscription I beleive. If you'd like to know more PM and I can give you the details, I don't remember them off the top of my head. Hope this helps.

You might have your friend check with his doctor to see if the glasses he is wearing are polycarbonate. Glasses made currently that are true glass are few and far between. My doctor told me that glasses now are 95% polycarb, since most daily wearers have high impact lifestyles, and glass lenses were breaking more often than not causing injury and higher costs.
I wear prescription work safety glasses when I play, they have side shields as well as large lenses so they work pretty well. You might have your friend ask about being able to purchase work style safety glasses also.

I have a pair of Wiley-X SG-1 goggles with Prescription lenses. They work pretty well usually. Some times they fog up pretty bad, others no problem. Anti-fog solutions work for about an hour before they are covered in large water drops instead of usual fog.

ESS makes a shooting glasses that hold a perscription eye peice behind the actuall lense...look a little goofy but the guys here that have them say they are the shit. There is also a google from ESS that has a deep lense to it, so you can wear glasses under them. And i havnt heard any of the other guys say anything about fogging. Just keep in mind, me and the other gunners are in moving air alot, so our AO's are alot different.

I've got the new JT Flex8 paintball mask with their vortex fan. The rarely fog because they're so well vented, but in the extreme that they do, I click on the fan for a minute or two and it's good to go again.

Not as 'cool' as the Tac-goggles, but very effective.

(I plan on getting myself a pair of the Bolle T800s and the presciption insert for them - those never fogged when I had a pair before I had my glasses)
