AFTER ACTION REPORT: OP SIGNAL TEST

Local Rhodesian forces left the staging area approximately 0940 and went to setup up their base and booby traps. Half of them were transported on the Gator and the rest walked up to the field. After Shadow had been deployed to the field, the 1st Russian insert was done with approximately half of their forces. They were deployed approximately at grid 1477 and tasked with setting up their FOB and securing the area to 1777 where there were to set up a base of operations in the AO. After the first Russian deployment, US Forces were transported to 1579 and tasked with moving to their FOB location at 1984. They were transported in two deployments. Once US Forces were deployed the 2nd half of the Russian team was transported to their FOB.
Russian forces had a solid start and their FOB was the best on the field. They moved to secure their base at 1777 and immediately began to setup their communications tower (which was set at 16057705). While securing their area, they made contact with local Shadow forces who gave them some intelligence on US Movements in the area. They then sent two patrols to Grids 1579 and 1780. They also sent a Recon unit to the area of COMM5 to confirm it’s location as the Sat photos of the area did not show COMM5. Both Patrols made contact with enemy US Forces. The Recon unit did an outstanding job of skirting both Shadow and US Forces, confirmed COMM5 and returned to base.
While Russian Patrol teams were out, US Forces broke their ROE and moved into the Russian Sector below the 78th parallel and began attacking the Russian base at 1777. Russian forces fought with US forces in the DMZ and prevented any re-enforcement of the attacking US Patrol. Shadow forces then moved into the Russian sector and began engaging US Soliders. Russian held their base at 1777 and fought off the US Forces and secured their AO (for the time being).
US Forces were initially tasked with securing COMM3 and setting up a FOB after some confusion on the location they were supposed to setup in. They secured the road from COMM3 to their DMZ at parallel 81. They also secured COMM2 and set up a small base about 20 meters south of COMM2 between COMM1 and COMM2. They then sent Patrols to several Grid sectors including the breach into the Russian controlled zone.
US Forces had several engagements with Russian and Shadow forces in the DMZ and fought hard to maintain their control sector. As this happened, US Forces were able to control the entire DMZ area for about 30 minutes as they forced into the Russian controlled zone.
During this time Shadow forces made several contacts with both US and Russian forces, it was reported that Shadow took several bribes of cigarettes and other items to fight for each side. Shadows ultimate goal was to rid the area of all foreign units and they changed sides frequently to the chagrin of both the US and Russian teams. At one point it was reported that Shadow had requested a chainsaw from the US forces and “wire guided missilesâ€
