Full face mask required for under 18 players?

Postby Sawney » Tue Mar 15, 2005 8:33 am

Hey,

Is it required by law that anyone under 18 has to have a full face mask for airsoft? So do I, almost 16, have to have and wear a paintball mask to the local games advertised on this site? Or can I legally just use shooting glasses/goggles?

Thanks!

Is it required by law

No, I always wore shooting glasses, even when I was underaged. I haven't reviewed the ap rules recently, so they might require it, but by law is a no.

That might have been a rule for some else's games, but we've always had the same eye protection regardless of age.

The only full face protection rule that I'm aware of is for the CQC events held at TPTS.

Shooting glasses and goggles should meet ANSI Z81.1 standards.
You should also understand that by not wearing a full face mask, you assume the risk of having a BB damage your teeth. But this risk can be minimized if you don't smile or if you chew gum while airsofting.

Personally, I wear a nice $30 paintball mask, I've been busted in the lip by a BB and don't want to re-live that experience. it's also good for keeping out ear and nose shots which also tend to suck. It doesn't fog up as much as my goggles used to, but the large mass makes it hard to sight some guns. It has two lenses, clear and smoke, plus a removeable bill, so it's pretty versitile.
Airsoft is a brotherhood, remember how you treated your brothers? Seran Wrap on the toilet seat, putting his hand in warm water while he slept, IcyHot in the jock strap. You are all my brothers, now stay out of my room.

Face shots aren't generally THAT BAD, if you just man it up and take the hit... honestly teeth shots are no good but that's what you get for getting shot w/ a shit-eating grin!

I've been shot in the face before:

What you can't see in that picture was I also took a BB in the gums and my mouth was full of blood.

Normally skin breakage is a rarity, although it does happen.

Really, Rick is just a bleeder.
