Chipped Teeth

Postby Mau » Fri Nov 30, 2007 4:29 am

Recently our local group went out to play, and one of our players got their tooth chipped in half. We play fairly regularly (almost every weekend) with 10-20 people so an incident was inevitable after a year and a half of fairly regular play.

We use standard FPS limits 400 for AEG's and 550 for bolt's along with the z87.1 eyewear. It was a stock Echo 1 mp5 that did the dirty work to my friends tooth at about 75 feet. It bairly hit the nerve of the tooth so there is a chance they will have to do a root canal. I can safely say that a majority of our players will be using mouth protection in the future. 1-3$ for a mouth guard vs. several hundreds to fix a tooth.

It is rare, but it can happen. I want to suggest wearing some sort of balaclava or mouth protection, while it isn't life threatening might as well play it safe eh?

yeah it happened to one of our teammates also about a two years ago. it was just a small skirmish in someones backyard, and it was a freakin super 9 that hit him in the tooth.

At Operation MadDog someone was shooting really hot, (And this is based on the fact that they were a good distance away) and took out my right front tooth all the way to the nerve. I already had the emergency root canal, but now Im waiting until the 26th of December to finish it, and then three other seperate appointments to get the tooth replaced.

Personally, I can't wear mouthguards in airsoft, I hate them. I've always worn one during Football and Rugby but during airsoft I need to communicate, i need to breath (Not that I don't in the others, but you always found a way around it) But I just can't use one in airsoft. As far as balaclava's go, even with the heavy duty diver's anti-fog with a balaclava they still fog! So my advice is just to keep your mouth closed during combat, I don't really think about it, but I do it as best I can, that's the only reason I lost my tooth at Mad Dog, cause I was breathing with my mouth open. All the sudden BAM! Im spitting out a BB and a part of my tooth (Cause yes the BB stayed in my mouth) It's a wierd sensation knowing you just got upsidedown up...

But insurance is covering the Dental bill anyways!

I've taken one hit to the teeth so far. Luckily it didn't break anything. Hurt though.

Dirty, it wasn't necessarily a hot gun. You heard that a stock Echo broke a tooth from 75ft. It just hits wrong sometimes.

I personally don't like wearing a mouthguard. It's hard to breathe effectively, and, more than that, it is Very hard to Communicate. I've worn them at Strikezone, and I usually end up leaving them in a pocket after the first or second game.

I think, if I was really worried about reducing my risk of injury to 0%, I wouldn't be playing airsoft.

Chipped teeth are common. We had it happen in our group last spring. As a result, we require full face protection now at all our games.

Low FPS guns can cause this, too. The incident with us involved a stock weapon shooting 280 fps. The hit occurred from about 35-40 feet away.

A few years ago, I had both of my two front teeth knocked out (unrelated to airsoft). A kid pushed my face into a desk, and the two fuckers shattered. I have to wait till I'm 21 to get them capped because the pulp in the tooth isn't done forming. Luckily I don't have to pay for the work done on my mouth; all work to be done, plus money for mental and physical anguish, is being payed for by the kid who did it. I'm so sensitive to oral-injuries now.

I wear a neck gator over my mouth, and a shemagh wrapped around my neck/mouth. I am NOT about to have these little bastards pop out again.

Geting your teeth knocked out is way worse than it sounds, I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

Never had a tooth shot out, but I've been hit in the tooth pretty good on a couple of occasions. Totally rattles your brain.

i have lots of cracked/chipped broken teeth, mostly from hockey a few from ... beer none from airsoft yet, though ive been hit in the front right tooth twice from very close range, one left a nasty fat lip and rang my bell pretty good, for the other one i was smiling.... i dont smile when shooting @ people anymore, i had to sit down for that one. My tooth felt funny for almost a week.

i still dont wear any mouth protection, but I'm used to injuries and have a good dental plan. I would strongly urge you to wear mouth protection if you are even a little concerned about tooth injuries, they can be pretty expensive and painful.

After breaking my fellow teammates tooth I started to worry. So, I wear a mouthguard that you can speak with and is custom molded to my dental impression. www.customguards.com is the site and it is very reasonable. You can get your callsign and team logo imbedded in the mouthguard for no extra charge. Check it out 8)
