Floating an Idea

Postby Eyes On » Sun Oct 02, 2005 4:37 pm

I'm floating an idea to guage interest in a Scout Sniper or Reconnaissance competition.

1. I don't know where it will be held.
2. I don't know when it will be held.

If you have a LARGE wooded field (Scapoose field is ideal), and want to host at that location, please contact me.

My idea is that this overnight event would be along the same lines as the "Best Ranger" competition, only geared for sneaky bastards.

Events would include:
1. Tactical Land Navigation/Infiltration
2. Point Reconnaissance (day)
3. KIM event

I'd also like to incorporate a night skills course. My thinking is the event would use 2-man teams.

Day 2 of the event would be a force on force team elimination event where two-man scout sniper teams would hunt each other.

More to follow later as the idea develops.

Wouldn't the land navigation part be unfair since some people have played on Scapoose alot?

There are plenty of ways to make it even. This is the drawing phase, everything should be worked out by the time anythng is implimented.

Not if I simply give the teams an azimuth and a distance, as opposed to a terrain reference or a grid coordinate. Also, nobody said the event would be AT Scapoose, only that it would be the perfect size/terrain.

Thought about this whole thing over the last few hours. I have some solid test criteria bouncing around in my head, and if I can get at least 6 2-man teams and 5+ qualified helpers, this event is going to run at the first suitable field I can find.

As is usually the case, this event will not be amateur hour. Any team that signs up is in for a fun but rough time. Once I find a place to host this, we will get into the specifics.

If you are interested, don't post here... yet. Find a team mate, then post both names.

Team One is Seagreen and Hillbilly
Team Two is Nightshade and Boomstick

I would enter and all, but it wouldn't be fair to my partner.

I am under the impression that the Scapoose field is closed to overnight stays. But I may be able to make contact with the head of Longview Fibers Security, though I have been avoiding that because the field is owned.

I do have another Idea that may be of interest though, PM me and I can pitch it to you Gunny.

we just scored a 75acre piece of land down in the lebenon area. Its privately owned by a friend of one of teammates. I can see if overnight would be allowed. The field is ready for play, all I need to do is go down, see the land, mainly to scout it out for potential games and all and see what we have there in total. Get the owners to agree to the liabilty waiver we would have players sign and its good to go. If I can procure overnight permission I would gladly offer it up for use. New field, no would have the upper hand since people are crying about fairness. But trust me when I say this, from someone who has down overnight landnav on land they have trained on for months. doesnt always matter if you think you know it or not. And gunny was right in saying there are ways to even it up. I would not be participating in the event do to certain reasons. But I would offer up any help I can, and even assist on field as a moderator/ref/judge or whatever if you would like me to. This is great idea, and more like it would be even better.

Feel free to use the APL waiver as template if you want, Casca helped us make it pretty air tight. Also - Rick might need to find a new spotter.
