Situation:

NICARAGUA

History:

Daniel Ortega was re-elected as leader of the Sandinistas in 1998. Municipal elections in November 2000 saw a strong Sandinista vote, especially in urban areas, and former Tourism Minister Herty Lewites was elected mayor of Managua. This significant result led to expectations of a close race in the presidential elections scheduled for November 2001. Daniel Ortega and Enrique Bolaños of the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC) ran neck and neck in the polls for much of the campaign, but in the end the PLC won a clear victory. At these elections, 4 November 2001, the party won 42.1% of the popular vote and 43 out of 90 seats in the national assembly. The same day, Ortega was defeated by Enrique Bolaños Geyer of the Constitutional Liberal Party, winning 42.3%.

Daniel Ortega was once again re-elected as leader of the Sandinistas in March 2002 and re-elected as president of Nicaragua in November 2006. Ortega has been roundly criticized by former supporters for not allowing a transparent election process within the FSLN.

In his first week as President of Nicaragua Ortega met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The two heads of state toured shantytowns in the Nicaraguan capital Managua. Ortega told the press that Iran and Nicaragua were two countries who "share common interests and [have common] enemies". Ortega also suggested that the two countries would sign agreements to help reduce poverty in Nicaragua.

*TOP SECRET*

FROM: CIA HQ
TO: SOCOM COMMAND

Our intel indicates that the Nicaragua government, lead by President Ortega is seeking to buy a nuclear weapons program from Iran. His main source of income is through the Columbian drug trade that goes through his country to Los Angeles. SOCOM has been tasked to work up a sustained covert military operation that will cut the drug trade, seize Ortega assets, and confiscate evidence of Iranian involvement to sell nuclear technology to Nicaragua. We would also like to eliminate President Ortega, if possible, as a secondary objective.

I have photos of German Soldiers in WWII wearing snow suits, with a coloured arm band around their left arm, so they would be able to tell other German forces apart from the Russians (who were wearing damn near identical snow suits). :-D

Dammit Wade, you need to give me more warning. *nods* Enough warning that I can arrange for time off from work. So, whens the next Camp Cambria game of doom?

This one is at a pball field that will be opening in mid May........so I had to move quick. Besides..........I dont have a field that could accept a BIG OP anyhow! BUT, Iam working on it.........had one and lost it, and had 800 acres lined up very close to Spokane and it tanked as well.

Camp Comia is easy...........2nd sunday and 4th saturday of every month. Each of the four SA teams runs one skirmish per a two month rotational cycle. Operation Serenade put on by O4G, will be the 28th of April.

And the 2nd sunday in May falls on mothers day (gotta LOVE mom!) so it will be moved.

****FLASH FLASH FLASH****

Image

Image

Picture above is the only known picture of Gen. Carlos Santana, as he received training at the Soviet Spetsnaz Compound outside of Moscow, Russia. (est. 1983)

Gen. Carlos Santana
DOB: 1962(?)
Background: Born and raised in Manugua, Carlos was sent to the military academy as a young man. While there, the Sandinistas siezed control of the government. They quickly were able to indoctrinate politically, the military cadets. And upon graduation, Carlos was firmly a FSLN supporter. Sent to the Soviet Union for further training upon graduation. Carlos was able to quickly rise through the ranks of the military. Serving as a Capt. during the US backed Contra war. When the Sandinistas lost power in 1990, Carlos stayed in the military as a FSLN insider. And some reports indicate he was crucial in getting Pres. Ortega reelected in '06.

Profile:
Gen. Santana is a ruthless man, and has been known to torture his own men for insubordination. He is also a supreme tactician, and knows guerilla warfare well from his years spent fighting the Contras. While Pres. Ortega has cocktail parties at his large estate outside Managua. Gen. Santana is in the jungle making things run operationally. He over sees the Columbian drug trade, probably set up Nicaragua - Iran meetings, through his old Soviet contacts, and makes sure the FSLN political party runs on a daily basis. He also eliminates any political rivals the FSLN may have, with extreme prejudice.
