Urban Combat

Postby LION1 » Tue Nov 13, 2012 4:00 am

I have been thinking it would be so cool if we could play in an urban environment. Not just, crawling through the bushes in the woods, it would be so cool to fight in an old warehouse or something like an old building I think that would add something to the game an element of “realism” in a manner of speaking. However, I know this is nothing but a dream. I mean I know we have a place over in Portland but come on. I just think urban combat would be cool to play in. What do you guy’s think?

It is cool to play in. Some of my favorite fields were an industrial truck yard, a decommissioned military radar dome, and a warehouse / meat processing plant in North Portland's industrial district. I'm sure we'll have cool places like that in the future, people just gotta be on the lookout for opportunities.

Urban places are the best I feel. It's easier to incorporate wooded areas into an urban environment than the other way around. Look at some of the play fields in the UK. They look amazing! I know of one area I want to play really bad but I've only ever seen it from the outside from the MAX and it looks really sketch. It's the building between the Lloyd Center and Hollywood stops on the left side when you're headed east. It's covered in graffitti but looks like a cool place to get lost in and shoot each other. It probably has a ton of safety hazards though so playability is almost nil but I love to play in urban environments. At Lion Claws OP Trade Winds everyone got centered in the town which was just 9-12 buildings but it was the best urban environment I've played in yet.

And Tradewinds showed how much Airsofters have no idea how to play in an urban setting. Security and general situational awareness was a complete shitshow.

I've always wanted to play in an urban area. I've wanted to ever since my first game. When ever I talk about urban combat to my friends or other airsofters we always bring up the idea of having a whole city just for airsoft. Having a whole city for airsoft would be pretty damn diffucult to accomplish. We all know that's not going to happen but just imagine the game we can have with a city full of airsofters!

The Airforce base they used for Lion Claws XI (and other games in the series) totally beat the pants off of Rilea.

Haha yah it was, I remember one of the locals going up to airsofters and breaking their glow sticks and throwing them. Also the local who got ahold of the radio haha good times. I think it comes from airsoft being a typically hands-off experience for most of us and when they had people coming up to them and touching their stuff they didn't know how to react. One of the photographers was talking to me about everyone's situational awareness. I think another part was we as civilians didn't feel comfortable yelling at and manhandling the Army guys partly cause they were military. If they were just civilians like us I think it would have been a little different.

People like airsoft because they are individuals sneaking around. Sometimes a group fights like a team and it's highly effective. It's a lot harder to work as a team to get stuff done in MOUT or urban fighting. It quickly degenerates into speedball and two guys down opposite ends of hallways shooting at each other like pop up targets.

I've said it a bunch of times, but i think Trojan Nuclear power in Rainier would be great. (not nuclear anymore)

They have two massive office buildings slated for tear down within the next 2 years. And plenty of spots for camping, and a huge park that gets reserved for private stuff all the time.

I am glade that you guys agree with me I was afraid that people were going to be like that sounds like a horrible idea and stuff like “I have played in urban areas and it just sucks”. I am glade that you guys agree with me on this, and I just wish that we had more of a choice when it comes to places to play. I would go to other states to play but I don’t drive and so it makes traveling hard.

That's what sucks about living in the northwest. It makes it more difficult to make urban fields. Cause of the heat in California they can put up four boards and call it a house. Do that over a fews times again and they get a village.

Have you contacted them at all to see if we could make use of those buildings?

If I had a dollar for every time somebody said they were gonna open a new field and nothing happened.... well, I'd have enough dollars to buy a movie ticket. Maybe some popcorn too.

I remember from the paintballing days they hosted a weekend event in Springfield. The clarion hotel was due for demolition and one of the local pro shops managed to enter into an agreement with the owner of the building and/or the demo crew to utilize the entire building for a paintball game. It was intense to say the least, and I do remember getting into a fire fight with a dude about 10 ft away (opposing doorways). Long story short I think if we get someone to represent the community and we keep our eyes open for buildings that are set to be tore down, it could become a reality.
When in doubt, empty the mag.

That's a great idea :D I vote Dos Santos! I believe he helped a lot in getting Lion Claws Tradewinds going which was huge.
