Ranger Green irrelevant?

Postby JoKeR1147 » Tue Oct 16, 2012 1:29 pm

Now that Army Rangers are switching to MJK for their vests, has ranger green become obsolete and irrelevant? I hope not, but are any other units out there still using my beloved color or is it time to move on?

On another note, If i were to move on I'd probably do a CCT or JTAC kit. My next question then is while the most appropriate vest for such a load-out would probably be a JPC, do those units also use coyote tan 6094a with any regularity? (If they did I would prefer a vest with slightly more real estate)

Some AFSOC guys are still using RG.

And no, the 6094 is more used than the JPC, because it's been around longer. Coyote Tan 6094s are used just as much as Multicam ones are.

I'm pretty sure Ranger Green is going to stick around for quite some time. It just... works. Granted I could see more Multicam showing up in their units, but Ranger Green as a whole? Doubtful it's disappearing.

To address your second question, I believe Darius said it best regarding what camo to use on the 6094:

Darius137 wrote:Does it matter which unit uses what from month to month? You don't have the DoD budget to switch as often as the Special Operations soldiers do.

If you want something that works for right now, you can't go wrong with Multicam. A lot of units still use Khaki too, for some insane reason.

As far as your implication regarding the carrying capacity of the JPC vs. the 6094, you should watch this video: This guy, like most YouTube broadcasters, needs to learn to properly prepare a speech so he doesn't stumble through his video. Still, he does a decent comparison of their carrying capacities.

Ranger green as a whole is being/has been phased out of use in the Ranger battalions. Their pouches are now exclusively Multicam as the SOFLCS kitbag, albeit with a couple random RG pouches still floating around.

So can RG gear still be accurate for AFSOC kits?

Barely.

And some Army SF guys are still using SG Paraclete stuff, but for the most part RG/SG is gone, replaced by khaki and Multicam stuff.

Well thats unfortunate for me, anyways thanks for the speedy replies guys! I think I have all the information I need.

I have a JPC right now, it's pretty awesome. Especially since I'm a small guy. I've been throwing the idea around of a LBT, but after the video, nah... My only regret is buying RG instead of CB/Khaki since RG is now being "phased out". ='( That and since TAAT is trying to shift to MARPAT, my loadout is no longer a mil-style loadout per-se'.
Bye.

Just because its being phased out of current issue doesnt mean you cant make a loadout for it. Its still a fairly current loadout, within the last few years. And with it being phased out, the prices on RG gear should drop a lot, so you can make a good impression for even less.

While it may not be at AOR1 prices, it's fairly hard to find and it's still expensive if you're looking for legit RLCS gear.

Unfortunately, AOR1 or AOR2 will probably stay at this price for as long as the SEALs are using it.

As a side note, we're fighting in countries that don't have nearly as much green in them as, say, Europe. Thus, the expansion of Coyote and Khaki colorings. Wait 3-5 years for the next big war. If it's not in the Middle East, I think you'll see a return of green tones. ;)

Hopefully we stop going from country to country waving our red white and blue tool around and learn some restraint so we don't need to change gear tones every "conflict".

Well, there are forests in Syria and a few other places in the Middle East.
Also South America has some nice Jungles to "play" in.
