Battery clicking?

Postby Spitfire » Fri Sep 07, 2012 4:18 pm

I recently bought a Tenergy 6-12v charger and a Tenergy 9.6v battery. When I charge the battery it makes a light ticking noise every 2-3 seconds. Is this bad??

Is the battery ticking, or is the charger ticking?

It could be radioactive

Seeing as batteries have no mechanism to generate clicking with, it's probably something else.

Unless that ticking is tiny arcs of electricity at regular intervals, jumping around the battery like it's an electric hand grenade.

I'd bet on the first one.

Make sure that all your connections are solid and secure.

Deffinetely the battery, I held both the battery and charger up to my ear, its coming from the back 4 on the battery. I used to have a geiger counter actually... maybe I should borrow one from science.

All my connections are secure...

The battery functions fine.

Tht, and the ticking speed increases when the battery is full. It goes from once every 2 seconds to about once a second.

When under constant strain does the battery also emit the ticking? Does the battery get particularly hot in certain parts of the battery?

Batteries should not make noise. Return it or destroy it.

No, the battery functions better than most of my friend's batteries, and it only ticks when charging, not discharging. Also, it gets warm evenly, not even hot to the touch.

I have to agree. At the expense of sounding cliche, it sounds like a time bomb waiting to go off.

Have you tried the same charger with a different battery to see what happens?

Just tried it on my friend's 9.6v 600mah RC battery, still makes a clicking noise but it is much quieter

Going to say that something is arcing inside the connectors.

It'd best be to do as the others have said, dispose of it before your stock and shoulder turn into a nice hot mess.

I'm gunna charge my battery on my buddy's charger to make sure that it's the battery and not the charger.

So, the "battery" makes a clicking noise, even though it happens with two different batteries?

Yes, try the battery on a different charger. I bet there will be no clicking noise. Get a new charger.

When I was 15, I built a remote controlled model boat from scratch--the only thing I bought were batteries, motors, and the RC system. When I was done it even shot BB's. Kids these days can't even make a battery and charger work? :banghead:

Just making sure that I am reading this right. Did you try your battery in your friends charger and it is still making the clicking noise.

If that is the case then is it shorting out. As the voltage enters the battery it is arcing and that is what you are hearing. Please destroy the battery before it catches fire and hurts or damages you and your property.

That's not what I said..... I tried my friend's 600 mah battery on the Tenergy charger, and the battery makes a ticking noise too.

They work just fine, I'm just curious as to the noise coming from them.

Also, every kid's smarts are different. I'm currently working on an airsoft Flamethrower, the prototype shoots an extremely high RPS but the range is laughable. I've coded software and have released an electronic album... Just because you made an RC boat doesn't mean we are absolute idiots that don't know how to work a charger.

Of course, one of my friends does charge by a method of "until the battery is too hot to touch", however. So you're deffinetely right on some of us. This generation is filled with idiots.
