Comfortable eyewear

Postby Ramer » Tue Jul 03, 2012 12:57 am

I searched this area of the forums as well as others, and used the search function, so don't dog me. I simply couldn't find a satisfactory answer.

I'll get to the point. Whenever I've worn any type of protective goggles in the past they've gotten extremely irritating after a while and I find myself unable to wear them. I don't like wearing safety glasses, because I feel like they'll fall off. Do any of you have a preference/suggestion regarding some good quality, comfortable goggles? They should be anti-fog as well. Don't like being blind on the field.

I'll be using a headset for comms in the future, so please keep that in mind.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Mesh goggles. They don't fog.

You could also use glasses straps to keep safety glasses on your head.

Full seal goggles are lame and should only be used if the field rules say so.

I love my ESS ICE glasses. I've never had them fall off. They're also very comfy for use with a headset. Hunt around on ebay for a cheap pair.

I also love my Remington shooting glasses. They work just as well and for $8 at Wholesale sports, or Dicks, or anywhere that sells guns/ammo, it's a hard price to beat.

I agree with Ninja, shooting glasses are best. Unfortunately sealed goggles are required here in KCMO. I use the exact ones mentioned above and they are great. No fogging and comfortable.

Wire or mesh goggles are the best in price and don't fog. I've used all sorts of goggles with diff opinions on each. I know use these and love them to death. http://www.airsoftoutletnw.com/index.ph ... &Itemid=28

I personally have seen just a few too many BBs shatter against mesh for to be comfortable wearing them personally.

There isn't a perfect solution, I think, each has advantages and disadvantages.

I might have to check out the ICE glasses.

As for mesh goggles... I'm kinda steering clear of that. I just don't feel quite comfortable using them.

I know I've talked about these before, but I was wondering if the Liquid Images Impact Series goggles are acceptable. I know they aren't ANSI rated for airsoft, but does that mean that AP simply won't let me use them in official events, or that they simply highly recommend that I don't? Or is it on a case by case basis according to where we play?

I'm asking because I've seen lots of videos made with these goggles (they're awesome) and people seem to be fairly confident with using them for airsoft.

Personally I love my Champion shooting glasses, they rarely fog even without anti-fog. My Champions have never even come close to falling off, and they have been vary comfortable even with Sordins. Other than that I can only say go to a gun/sports store and try on shooting glasses until you find a pair that you find comfortable.

If you need your eyesight for a job (or intended career) I wouldn't suggest mesh. Bio-BBs have the tendency to break on them and send shrapnel in you're eyes (there's a reason for this warning on a lot of mesh masks being sold "Shooting goggles (sold separately) is required to be worn under this mask to achieve full face protection. Buyer assume full responsibility and liability."), mesh are a really big gamble when it comes to safety. The only benefit you get from them is the lack of fog.

Once again, go and try out some shooting glasses at your local bi-mart, dicks, I think Discount guns has some, If cash isn't a problem Oakleys and ESS are both nice.

I thought I read somewhere in the Safety section of AP that regular shooting glasses aren't acceptable. Maybe I was wrong.

You're wrong. It says "Regular prescription glasses are NOT acceptable as safety eyeware." ;)

1.Always wear eye protection in the form of goggles, masks, or shooting glasses, or safety glasses. Never remove your eye protection while on the battlefield. Regular prescription glasses are NOT acceptable as safety eyeware. Must meet ANSI Z87.1 standards and wrap around the face.

Huh. Well, thanks for that. I guess I'll stop by Bi-Mart or something sometime soon and get me some glasses. When I can afford it, and they come out with some airsoft models, I'll totally get the Liquid Images goggles and make some awesome POV videos.

Thanks for the input everyone. I really appreciate it. When I'm geared up again I'll be seeing you all on the battlefield.

I always go with either basic ansi-rated shop glasses (generally like $15-25 for a 4-pack) or shooting glasses, though ESS and Revision make some great eyepro.

I know I've talked about these before, but I was wondering if the Liquid Images Impact Series goggles are acceptable. I know they aren't ANSI rated for airsoft, but does that mean that AP simply won't let me use them in official events, or that they simply highly recommend that I don't?

As an event host, I don't check everyone's goggles, but if someone is wearing eye-pro that looks to me like its glass, or otherwise not ANSI rated, I'll check. If I were to find someone who wasn't wearing rated eyepro, and refused to either find some or buy some (I keep NIB spares in my car for this purpose), I would simply eject them from the game.

Event hosts don't want the risk of being sued because you didn't wear appropriate eyewear.

Liquid Images Impact Series is most definitely not glass. They're made for impact from rocks and debris (they're made for extreme sports), but simply aren't rated specifically for airsoft. They say they're working on an airsoft version, but haven't come out with it. I wish they would, because I've seen some pretty awesome POV airsoft videos made with those.

And I can totally empathize with your last statement. There are plenty of people out there who are just enough of a prick to pull something like that.

If the glasses are not correctly ANSI rated, they can not be used at an AP game.

Also, those Liquid Image goggles look silly. If you want to record you shooting face, than get a Contour or GoPro.
