Support California

Postby LION1 » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:52 pm

Attention, Airsoft Pacific users, we have a bit of a problem. There is a bill currently being voted on in California if it is allowed to pass it will require all Airsoft Guns to be painted a bright color (i.e. orange and colors alike) in the state of California. If you have any friends in California that Airsoft or you live in California spread the word and vote it down, we need to give them our support to stop this. I know some of you are saying "how does this affect us?" if it passes, it is only a matter of time before it reaches us. Support California Airsoft and Airsoft everywhere.

Doesn't this happen every week down there? I swear this has been happening over and over for years now.

I would suggest that you guys take the matter more seriously, seeing as how we'd probably be next in line for this treatment. (That is if this bill actually passed.)

@ Icepick, 2 things.

1: Nothing we can do. We aren't Californian citizens, we don't get a vote.

2: I don't think that if California passes a law that we will try to adopt the same. I just don't see the logic behind that assumption.

This.
Look at California's gun laws compared to ours and then tell us how you believe a ban on bb guns will leak over to Oregon?

First of all, I agree with #2. However, if we're picking at false assumptions, I'd look at your first point. Although the overwhelming majority of events on AP are Oregon/Washington, this is Airsoft Pacific, not Airsoft Northwest. There are Californians on this site. Secondarily, you can still write a letter to a congressman or two about this. They may ignore it because you're not a constituent, but it could have an impact. Sometimes knowing more than your tiny part of a state is watching can have a big impact.

I think there is an incorrect assumption at who "we"means. Icepick was referring to McNair and me, so that is who I meant when I said "we". McNair and I are not Californian citizens.

I could speculate on how useless most of this is, but that would also be useless.

I never meant this as in "Since California is going to ban airsoft guns, Oregon will too."

That's why I said "treatment" as opposed to something else. People get crazy ideas in their heads, and if California can actually succeed in limiting the ultra-evil child killing cop life-risking airsoft death machines, why wouldn't Oregon try to limit them as well? According to society there is nothing to lose and everything to gain by getting rid of our hobby completely.

Is this about SB 1315? It just removes Los Angeles and surrounding counties from the state preemption on imitation firearms. It won't effect the rest of the state (as in it wouldn't be the end of the world if it passed) but it should still be stopped.

I just don't see how you could consider it a fallacy though. I would consider it as one if I had proposed that something would happen in Oregon overnight, but like I said, people get crazy ideas in their heads. And I can guarantee you that once something happens in California, Oregon is bound to at least take notice of the bills they pass. Slowly but surely bills will keep coming, and California will keep fighting airsoft. At that point some other state would probably make an attempt to, right?

If I'm wrong (judging by Mcnair's rustling, it appears that I am) I would appreciate an explanation so that I can be corrected and have the right information.
