Emerson Vs FMA helmet? ( search used)

Yes, ive searched for emerson helmets. as well as other helmet related articles. Not very many definitive answers.

Im looking at these two helmets, the first one is on sale, and the FMA:

It has no reviews.

the second is the Emerson:

It is not on sale, but does come with some extra goodies.

Now Im a complete helmet noobie. The only helmets I've ever owned have been on old PASGT my uncle gave me, and an M1 steel pot. Both were huge on me, thus I think i have a small head. My head circumference is 22 inches.

Im looking into buying one of these two models. My question to you, since I have no experience with these helmet designs, which is the better buy? And more importantly, will my head be swimming in these? I dont want to drop 80 bucks on something im going to look ridiculous in.

should I bother spending the extra 30 and go with the Emerson? It looks a lot nicer, and comes with a lot more...things. I have no idea if they have any true value though.

The FMA is on sale, and thus very enticing. But its very basic.

Im conflicted. Sadly, none of my friends have one of these I can try on for myself. Anyone else here have a small head and own one of these helmets?

Id appreciate any kind of feedback I can get, the sale for the FMA is over in 2 days, so any info is great!

I'm pretty new to helmets myself, but I can address your question about extras:

Perceived value is usually higher than actual value. A NVD mount on the front of the helmet, for example, looks neat and usually isn't used.

Treat it like buying a computer. Figure out what you want from your helmet. Will you want to mount your goggles to it? Will you want to put a light or a camera on it? What about night vision? What do you want it to do? Will you want patches on it? Then, find one in an aesthetic you like that has the features you want. Figure out what it'll cost to upgrade (little digging here!) if you later want to expand to a new set of equipment. Compare those costs, and decide which is better for you.

Fact is, most guys I know would be happy with a completely unadorned helmet if it wasn't so unstylish. If you won't be using it for more than basic head protection, I'd buy the less expensive of the two. Good luck!

Don't forget to factor in time in finding/installing parts. Is it worth $30 to spend 5-10hrs looking for the perfect parts, checking if it should fit, buying, waiting, then installing(and hope you do it right)?

I have the Emerson fast bump and love it. I would get the bump over the balistic.

After digging around the internet people say the Emerson FAST Bump helmet is M/L sized (confirmed when I bought a First Spear M/L helmet cover). The positive thing is that FAST helmets use the Occ-Dial retention system, so you may be able to dial it down to secure on your head.

I only own the Emerson helmet so I cannot speak on the quality of the FMA helmet.

As for looks... Whatever floats your boat. IIRC the only military people that use the Bump are AFSOC, usually PJ's. All other HSLD Alphabet teams (DEA, SEALS) use the Ballistic. If you really want the same look on the Ballistic, buy some Velcro, spray paint & a mesh laundry bag.
