ICOM IC-F4 UHF antenna help!

Postby dom186 » Mon Aug 29, 2011 5:53 pm

So a did my research finally and realized that I do need to buy new antennas for my Icom. It came with antennas that were about 20-40mhz out of FMR/GMRS range and I need to have some few answers answered.

What I do Know:

I need an antenna that is compatible with the Icom IC-F4
It needs to be a UHF antenna operating between 450-470 mhz (obviously)
The connector MUST be a TNC male

I found some UHF's on eBay w/ TNC male connectors but they said they were for the Kenwood. Does it really matter? I thought as long as it connects then it's good.

I am having trouble finding TNC males that are "compatible" w/ the Icom's.

Any help is much appreciated!

As long as it's an antenna rated for the bands your using and it has the proper connector you're golden. Some antennas are manufactured by OEM radio companies but will work on other radios.

No it does not need to be "Icom", although it does, as you have done a good job observing, need to be a TNC connector. That said, where Uncon. linked works, and I always send people who come into HRO looking for that stuff is to Day Wireless.

Or could I use the combination of these two products?

(maybe find a US seller to cut on ridiculous shipping wait time?)

I think you've figured it out but go ahead and put up a photo or two of the end of your radios female connector...where your current antenna connects into. Also send photo of you radio..I want to confirm that it is an F4S or an F4. The F4 has 10 or more key buttons etc...the F4S only has 7 rubber buttons on the front of the radio. I want to see exactly what connectors you have so we can all get to the bottom of this and solve the problem and know what to buy before you make any purchases.

I have Icom F4's and F4S's and the antenna's on mine are the standard large screw-in male fittings. If yours came that way as well...you should have been able to buy one of these which have the regular standard large type Icom radio male thread fittings to solve your mhz range issue:
