Crossdraws, yes or no?

Well... I just decided to clean up my old crossdraw and put it back in the garage. I tried it on and actually liked how comfortable it was, the low-profile design and the pre-built holster is a real bonus. This, however, is comfort as opposed to my PC. If I bought one of these in a different color, I honestly wouldn't mind skrimishing in it. This pretty much leads me to my questions...

How many people do you see using crossdraws? Would YOU actually use one? (Despite the fact that they are cheap, "poor quality", etc.) Why wouldn't you use one?

I use a Blackhawk Serpa holster for my Sig, and it can be mounted at numerous angles for cross-draw. I currenlty have it sort of in the small of my back, at an angle that is I guess the opposite of cross-draw?

Before, I had it mounted on my front in a cross-draw fashion. This was handy, because (in my experience, which is limited) leg mounts required either cutting off some circulation or an obnoxious rattle-smash chunk of weight bonking around on your thigh. Anyways, I eventually moved my cross draw to my back because it is less in the way there when manuevering and such stuff. And how often do I need my pistol anyways, I use an assault rifle..?

What I'm getting to is that I like cross-draws, but I'm tempted to get a leg mount because my pistol bangs around a lot in the back when I'm running. It makes me feel like one of those poor LEOs on "Cops." The most stable solution I can think of would be a shoulder holster.. Maybe I'm misguided. Nonethelss, that would be really inconvenient for reasons like wearing a vest/plate carrier etc.

People don't like to use them because you cant move anything around, and the mag pouches tend to be in a bad spot for any kind of a quick reload. If you like how it is laid out, and feel comfy wearing it, there is no reason you shouldn't. But be warned, you shall be labeled as a noob for life.

I find that the crossdraw is an inferior way of carrying a secondary weapon, as a secondary weapon should be easy to transition to. If dropping a slung primary, it is not easy to grab a weapon out of a crossdraw holster as compared to a belt or drop leg holster. If carrying a pistol as a primary weapon, such as in an EOD role or something similar (there are not many situations I can think of, honestly) I can see where it could be useful. I will admit that it makes a lot of sense as a vehicle driver, as it is much much more accessible than would be a belt or dropleg.

I personally hate how tactical vests ride in comparison to how much gear they carry. For the amount they carry, I would much rather have it all on a belt rig.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but as I see it, he asks a valid question in a polite format, although it would be better placed in the tactical gear section.

Well Nasty, with all due respect you know the old saying right? Easier said than done? In some sort of relation to that, I guess another point I should have mentioned is the "noob" factor. With everybody running around in this fantastic $1000 gear, the little guy ($40 crossdraw) is obviously going to get bagged on a bit.

I love my crossdraw vest, it has rubberized pouches that can double stack my G3 magazines.
Biggest downside would probably be the fact that I have to reach over to grab magazines rather than just down as it is on my MOLLE vest.

I like the customization of plate carriers. I use cross draws in CQB because they are small and carry just enough ammo. I use plate carriers out doors to hold my radio, 'nades, crap load of mids, etc...

I hold a very different opinion. Personally, I would rather have a plate carrier indoors, where I could (potentially) need more magazines, grenades, radio, dump pouches, etc. Outdoors, a tac vest, with its limited capacity is lighter and allows more stealth.

well everyone has their play style. I'll try to mix it up and see what you mean

I see what you are going at, however. Most CQC games require less BB's than a typical day outside.

I would use a crossdraw if there was some sort of bungee option for the x2 M4 pouches. It just bugs me as a begginer, when your pinned down and you have to rip up the velcro flap and deal with trying to keep no velcro-on-velcro contact.

i regret getting open top mag pouches, the bungee cords get in the way

I used to roll double vertical crossdraw with two Uncle Mikes vertical Crossdraw on top of my Pantac LBV. Tanaka M29 6.5inch and TM Desert Eagle. Both are not usable at the moment... But they damn worked fine. I could be rough as I wanted to be and not worry about my handguns at all.
