Gear necessities?

Discussion of load-bearing equipment, tactical gear, holsters, BDUs, and other gear related to Airsoft.

I second what Vogon had to say, as I ran an ALICE belt rig (and LBV-88, for that matter) for about a year and a half out of my three years of airsofting, and still use the belt as my first line gear under my vest. It lasts as well as high end replica and real plate carriers, but it lacks the cool factor. However, if you get a replica plate carrier, I recommend Pantac over Condor, as it lasts much better.

I must also second the good boots suggestion, as boots can make a huge difference. I personally recommend Danners first, then Belleville, then Bates, then Altama. I recommend spending at least 90$ on a pair of new boots, as cheaper ones break down pretty badly.

Good eye protection is also important. Bad goggles fog and make for a crappy day.

Camouflage can be whatever you prefer. Woodland is cheap and effective.

As far as guns, I choose brands based on the gun. For M4/M16 series weapons I recommend KWA wholeheartedly. I have abused mine, and barely had any problems with it in almost a year, and it still works great. I used to have an Echo 1 M4, but it was not durable enough for me.
For AK type weapons, my friends have had wonderful luck with JG and Echo 1. They are tough, and cheaper than heck.

What sort of loadout are you looking to emulate, if any?

I like the mesh oakleys and full seal goggles that Bitter End makes around here. No lenses to fog and he's been QC-ing the mesh for a while and uses awesome material that really stands up to repeated point blank punishment. Fogged goggles at an OP always make me mad. He ships too so you don't have to be around for local pickup.

Although you do lose the realism factor with the mesh.

and +1 to the ALICE/surplus suggestion. LBVs are teh sex.

Here's my opinion: Spend it on the gun, and get only the necessary gear.

If you go to a game in a functional gear setup, but proceed to pick off and out-maneuver every single target that you take a bead on, trust me, nobody is going to care what gear your wearing.

I think in total I've spent about $100 on gear (excluding BDU), but I don't even want to think about how much has gone into all the guns I've owned, especially my custom primaries past and present. After I'm done building a gun though, it performs.

My team and I are all high-speed players. i.e. we don't usually sit around much, so light gear is a must. Here's what I look for in a setup:

- light, flexible, and breathable.
- 2 small storage areas for tools/personal items/food/etc.
- Minimum 5 double-stack closed-top mag pouches.
- Hydro Pouch. Canteens tend to snag easily.
- Dump Pouch. Invaluable when running mids.

I prefer it all to be close-in on my torso with as little as possible on the waist/legs in order to be more agile.

As mentioned previously, good boots are a must. I've got Bellevilles and I'm very please with them.
For every action (Bang) there is an equal and opposite reaction (HIT!)

I'm biased but a two piece TT MAV with an X harness is extremely Low profile and very very comfy.

As far as boots go, in my experience surplus boots are the most comfortable, water proof/resistant gear you can throw on your feet if you can find ones that have been worn in similar to the contour of your own feet. I have a couple pair and they're probably the best purchases I've made.

If you are looking to attend OPs, a good pair of boots is the difference between enjoying yourself and having an uncomfortable time.

I'm a gearqueer, so I'd say get a good solid gun, then drop a ton on gear (by ton I mean have a significant portion left over).

I'd look at getting an RRV or FAPC replica, made by Flyye. Ehobbyasia carries them both. Then get whatever pouches you think you'll need, which there should only be a few mag pouches, then a utility and maybe an admin pouch, as well as a hydration carrier of some sort. I'd be surprised if that ran more than $300, so on your budget you'll still have plenty left over, while looking tactiqueer at the same time!

Just remember, kit don't make the player. ;)

Start off with an ALICE rig and work your way up if you plan on going with an M4/16 platform. Figure out what your playstyle is and then base your gear around that. If you do want to go the MOLLE route, here are some good brands
HSGI
DBT
Tactical Tailor
Eagle
TAG

For example, Jester316 usually plays as a sneaky bolt turner or a shoutie commander so he uses a small chest rig which carries mags and comms, nothing more.

Ogre plays as a shoutie commander as well, but he loves to hose, so he uses a plate carrier with about 12 mags+room for his 203 shells, water and radio.

I myself use a belt rig in the summer so I don't overheat and a PC in the colder months with the same pouches as the belt rig. I usually end up towards the front of a fight and running around so I like keeping my gear lighter.

If you have a budget that large, I'd start with a quality gun and add gear as you go. As Vogon said, Real Sword makes a damn fine gun. Both their AKs and FAMASs (JUNTO JOKE LOL) are amazingly built guns. Besides Russkie having one that acts like the debil, I haven't heard a single bad thing about them from the people that use them. If your looking at a M4 platform, then G&P is hard to beat. Whatever you do end up getting, get spare batteries (they'll die at the worst time) and midcaps for it. Start with 3 or so and add more as you play more games if you find yourself running out of ammo. If your 3 mags last you all game, just stick with those.

Shakespear: I am going for a special opp/mercinary type look. Sort of like TF141 from MW2. So I do think a lighter setup would be best for acheiving that.

PS: yes I play 'call of duty', but who dosent tho?

Thanks man, I never said I wanted it exactly TF141, just along the lines of it. Where can I find the list of gear for the SOF unit ranger or seal loadouts?

You might want to add an AEG to the list if you actually plan on playing airsoft.
